Which is more beneficial? Or does it matter?

As many of us are, I don't have the luxury of lots of extra time to devote to working out. I'm trying to maximize my efficiency and get in workouts throughout the day, but I'm wondering if it's more or less efficient. Is it better to do a few things here and there throughout the day, like tricep dips on the edge of my desk, lunges in my office, etc. in 5 minute increments spaced out over my entire day, or would it do me more good to just get up an hour earlier or go to bed an hour later to get it all done at once?

I know that something is better than nothing, but if it's better to do it all at once then I'd rather not waste my time looking ridiculous in my office all day long

I have always heard from health, wellness, and fitness people (through our wellness program at work) that it doesn't matter as long as you are doing it.
  • I'm no expert... But I would say it depends on your goals.

    Anything is better than nothing.

However, you aren't raising your heart rate over an extended period of time, you are unlikely (though maybe you are) pushing yourself to the point of failure on the strength training. I wouldn't log any of it as exercise specifically because of those two factors.

So, based on what I've read, you aren't going to see "big" changes from doing some healthy things through out the day, however you will likely feel fitter and more active, because of this you might make healthier nutrition choices, and finally burn more calories than you would have not doing anything.

    Hope that helps!
