savory protein shakes

I'd like to start a shake program very soon but I don't have a sweet tooth at all! Why do most programs advertise these delicious milkshake meal replacements but yet the recipes are so dessert-like? My hesitation to start a program is that I'll miss real food!
I'm hoping to find a protein powder that is nonflavored so I could create my own recipes. What about mixing with tomatoes and basil and herbs? You could create a chilled tomato soup or maybe heat it? Serve soup with cellery or carrot sticks. What about mixing with cooked onions, herbs, zucchini? Maybe I will find a nonflavored powder and try a few things myself. I can't believe I'm the only one out here who doesn't want a chocolate milkshake for breakfast!
What do you say?

Make a fruit shake if you want... if that wouldn't be too sweet for you. Most shakes I've found are pretty sweet.

Why do you want to start a shake program as opposed to real food? I find I stay full longer and have more energy by having real foods. I only use protein shakes as a suppliement to help me reach my protein goals daily when needed.

You can try any combination of foods that you like and see how they turn out. I find unflavoured protein powders have a gritty texture to them.

I agree!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm having lap band surgery in a week, I hate the sweet shakes. Nutrilite ( at Amazon of course) has an unflavored shake. It isn't however as high in protein as Chike. I'm going to try to work something out. Oh! Proti Diet has several savory soup sprotein drinks. Ciao, Misc.

I can't help you find an unflavored/savory protein powder, but I might be able to help you create a savory protein shake.

    There are a couple options.

One is to use greek yogurt as a base. This would be the easiest of my two options. You can add in whatever floats your boat, although I think that salsa pairs especially well with greek yogurt. Add some cilantro and/or lime juice/other southwest seasonings as well. Greek yogurt is too thick to drink, so you would ave to water it down.

Not everyone likes the tang of greek yogurt. I will use it as described above, to make a creamy salsa dip, but I can't imagine using it as a shake and drinking such large quantities.

That's where option two comes in. You can actually blend cottage cheese into a smooth paste (although my blender is kinda crappy, so I have to blend and then push it through a sieve. Its a bit of work, but in the end your left with an ultra creamy substance, a tad lighter than yogurt but just as smooth. I think it would pair marvelously with savory ingredients. Its thick, so if you wanted something drinkable you'd have to water it down. That could be done with water, milk, or even the juice from the tomatoes you were thinking of adding alongside basil.
