FRUIT FOR WEIGHT LOSS

I am thinking about eating a 1,200 calorie per day/low carb/20 grams of fat diet. I try to workout at least 40 minutes a day/5 days a week.
I have PCOS and any carbs put weight on me JUST LIKE THAT and even though fruit is full of sugar, does it count as "bad" sugar as far as carbs go?
My main question is, Can I eat all the fruit I want on a lowfat/low carb diet?
I'm pickey. I mainly only like bananas, apples, grapes and watermelon.

You're doing low carb and low fat simultaneously? BUT you're trying to bend the rules of low carb to allow fruits?
Sugar is sugar from the perspective of a low-carb diet- it's carbs. If you're really doing low-carb, you can't have fruit because fruit is a "healthy" carb...it's a carb like any other carb. One could even make the argument that it's slightly worse purely from a carbohydrate point of view because it's disproportionally high in fructose which, unlike other simple carbs, is partially processed by the liver.
That said, fruit is healthy. Do you really NEED to be low carb? Is it possible that the extra carb-weight could be 1) water weight from glucose replenishment or 2) an issue created because your low calorie diet (in addition to the PCOS) has artificially suppressed you BMR?
I also have a carbohydrate-sensitive metabolic disease. What I did to get a grasp on it was:
1) lift weights
2) Keep my total carbohydrate intake in check, but never go "low-carb". I do this by getting ~30% protein and ~35% fat. I concentrate on meeting minimums for fat and protein and staying in my calorie limits- this naturally means that I can't go over on carbs without going over on calories. Thus, I never have to specifically monitor or limit carbs.
3) I never worry about fruit or any other natural sugar sources (like milk). I just try to be reasonable in my food choices. It's not really that difficult to limit myself to ~1 treat with added sugar a day.
4) I spent ~6 weeks at the beginning of my weight loss exercising, lifting weights, and upping my calorie intake to ~1650 from 1100-1200, because I didn't want to be stuck at 1200 forever. It was frustrating and sucked- the scale didn't move at all for 6 whole weeks...but in that time I did lose inches. There were times I was ready to quit, but I figured if I wasn't gaining, at least I was getting fitter and finally able to eat more than a toddler. After 6 weeks I had a 'woosh' loss, 6 lbs came off, and then for the next 6 months I was able to lose weight consistently at 1-2 lbs/wk at 1650 calories.
5) Lifting weights. Needs to be said again, because it helps carbohydrate sensitivity and improves your metabolism.
So, I think you should seriously reconsider the whole direction you're going here.0 -
sugar is sugar
carb is a carb0 -
2-3 servings is the general recommendation fron American Diabetes Association and the remainder coming from vegetables low in starch.0

Okay, so, basically, fruit is a no-no? lol Thanks, everyone. I am still learning apparently. I am a carb eater so its hard to cut them out completley but from experience, carbs make me gain FAST. I lost 40 lbs doing Zumba and cutting out carbs and haven't but any of the weight back on in over a year. So, I think I'll stick to staying away from them for the most part.0

not a no no...but for women who want to lose weight, keep fruit to a minimum....1 serving a day probably max to get the best results. I still eat fruit but trying to keep my carbs low, i ave an apple very other day , and maybe 1 or 2 bananas on the weekend, but just figured out i'm cutting carbs out big time, so i may have 2-3 servings of fruit a week now. yes its healthy sugar as some people will say, natural , etc....but its still carbs and sugar and your body will process the same way.0

This...exactly!!!one thing I've noticed since I don't eat a lot of fruit now is it is a sweet treat when I do have some and a much healthier option...best of luck!!!!!0
