Hello,
Thought I would pop in and introduce myself. I'm Anna, I'm from Edinburgh, Scotland and I'm aiming to lose 3 stone (42lb) by the time I start at uni at the end of September. I have wanted to lose weight for a long time and have been up and down like crazy, I'm finally giving in and accepting that there's only 1 way to do it and that's the sensible healthy eating and exercise way!
I'm very much an all or nothing person, I love healthy food and am pescetarian (vegi but I eat fish) so my main problem is portion control! So while I'm on my diet I can expect to be very well behaved but if I get side-tracked and go off the rails it could be a disaster.
Exercise wise I enjoy walking and horse riding and not a lot else, I love swimming but haven't been lately. So lets hope walking lots works! I've been trying to do some crunches every day but I really have to get a foamy mat because they're not so comfy on solid wood!
I'm 6' tall and currently 222lb with a curvy frame, would be really interested to meet others with similar stats. Would be cool to meet other people into the same stuff too; I'm 24, I'm gay, I have an optimistic outlook on life, I like the outdoors, nature and animals, I'm really good at scrabble so I like that and the usual stuff like going to the pub and eating out etc.. I'm going to uni to study midwifery, I work in a bar and I do a lot of volunteer work with Riding for the Disabled.
Lovely to meet you all! xxx

Hello,
In contrast to you I am a 5' 11" tall, 42 years old, married, and male from West Virginia, USA. Regardless of our differences most of us have one thing in common here, and that is a desire to live our lives at a different weight than our maximum. At my worst condition back in September 2009 I had reached 226 lbs. and was not happy with the result. I decided that knowing myself for 42 years I liked eating what I liked to eat, and that I didn't like the time and tedium of regular exercise. For me that meant portion control was the best option for my lifestyle in order to achieve my desired goal weight.
This web site has a lot of great tools to help with that goal in addition to tracking exercise for those who are more motivated. Regardless of what we like to eat, making the necessary life changes to intake a reasonable amount of calories each day is important to success here. What many people don't understand at first is that short term changes don't enable improving results. Many of us have been on the rollercoaster of weight loss and gain in our pasts, and it is understanding that paying attention to what we eat every day which is important for improvement. Sometimes we exceed our limits, but not ignoring or forgetting those limits leads to reaching our goals. I have lost 9 pounds so far using myfitnesspal to help keep me on track, and find myself making better and more informed choices knowing that I have to make a record of what I eat here.
I hope you also find success here and achieve your goals as well.0 -
Hi there, thanks for your reply and congratulations for the weight loss!
It is great to meet positive people like yourself, with this sort of encouragement it will make reaching my goals much less of a challenge. I am finding the tracking device a great way of making me think about what I put in my body. We will see how it goes!0 -
Welcome to MFP - I've only been here for about a month - but I love it! The support that is available here is great, and the tools are wonderful! Thats why I joined in the first place, just to track my food. I have found so much more!0
