Couch to 5K anyone?

This week has been more stressfull than I could ever have imagined! New classes, two jobs, a huge amount of homework, and the changes I'm making with my health have left me utterly exhausted. I feel of the gym wagon for two days, but I'm getting back on today! At my gym whatever classes that are on the first day of the month are free, so I'm getting Febuary started with a Zumba class!

Also, during the morning of Febuary I will be doing C25K with running my 5K on the first day of March. I'll staring blogging what I'm doing to help me meet my goal along with what day of C25K I did that day. If you want to join C25K with me let me know I'd be glad to have more support as well as support you. Let's kick off Febuary right!

I just completed Week 8 Day 3. It is an utterly amazing program.

When I first started it, just running 60 seconds left me feeling like my heart would explode.

This morning I ran 28 minutes straight and at the end of it.... well my heart still felt like it was going to explode, but it didn't and that has to be a good thing right?

Seriously, though, the program works. It will always seem hard, but that's the idea - it constantly pushes you to do more than you could last week, and your body will respond and adapt. If it was easy, you'd not be gaining anything.

Next week will be three 30 minute runs for me, and then I graduate. I'm still a little off the 5k pace, I need to up my speed from 5.5mph to 6.2 mph to make 5k in 30 minutes, but I'm still proud of my achievement and plan to keep the 30 minute runs going until I can maintain that 6.2 mph pace. Then maybe I'll graduate on to the 10k bridge program.
  • I started at Week 3, since that's where I felt I was physically. Yesterday was the infamous Week 5 Day 3 and felt invinciable afterward - I didn't think I could run the whole 20 minutes, but I made it. I'm going try fitting in a free run this evening after work (or early tomorrow morning).

I've done it before a few years ago, it really is great. Tried starting week 1 last week but only got in 1 day. I'm planning to try starting again tomorrow!

I did a similar program a few years ago, and went from being a non-runner to running 5 ks in several weeks.

    Good luck!

Did my first 5k yesterday after finishing C25K. So much fun and totally worth it. Just remember to go at your own pace and if you need to repeat a week do it. I had to repeat a few. Also if you are serious consider going to a running store and get professionally fitted for a pair of shoes. Made a HUGE difference.
