'Clunky' shoulder

Hi just wondering if anybody has any advice for me concerning my 'clunky' shoulder?
Whenever I do weight/strength exercises my left shoulder starts making a horrible clunking sound and it's an awful feeling!
I take cod liver oil tablet (400mg) and glucosamine, chondroitin & msm daily.
My question really is : Is there another supplement tablet that would 'oil me up' I suppose you could say, or is there any particular food that I could adapt into my daily diet. I try and eat salmon, sardines, tuna atleast once or twice a week, and I eat plenty of fruit and veg on a daily basis.
I am only 43yrs old and try to workout 6 days a week, alternating daily between cardio and weight/strength training, but I feel like I am turning into the Tinman from the Wizard of Oz(or should I say TinWoman?) and all my joints are slowly seizing up!
The thing is, I have a long way to go to reach my ultimate weight and fitness goals and I really enjoy working out. I would hate for it all to come to a stand still too soon through injury, if you understand what I mean?
Thankyou in advance

Hey,
It sounds to me like you just have crepitus. Crepitus is defined as 'joint noise'; it usually occours because of limagments or tendons sliding over one another throughout your range of motion.
Now, if you feel any pain or instability in your shoulder then there is likely a deeper problem causing your crepitus (such as, something out of alignment, muscle imbalances, etc). If thats the case, go see a doctor.
As for supplememnt, your best bet is proabably to google 'joint supplements and read some consumer reviews. From peronal expirence, i do know that glucosamine and chondritin must be taken for months before you see any noticable effect.

I cracked the head of my humerous (upper arm bone) a few years ago and have been clunking ever since. What has helped is to do exercises specifically aimed at rehabing the shoulder joint. Look up Rotator Cuff exercises for specifics. I still have very little strength. It is funny to see a 6'6' 280# guy using pink Barbie dumbell weights to do overhead presses. I have found glucosamine to help somewhat but as Tom said it does take a while. I also take Tumeric 2 caps 2 x day for general joint stiffness/pain. That has worked well for my hands and is a good anti-inflammatory for your cardiac system as well. It is tuff being a geriatric fitness buff!
Good luck!0 -
Thankyou that's very helpful!! :-)
No I am in no pain with it at all - it's just noisy!!
I will research on the internet for supplements and suitable exercises.
All your answers have been very helpful and reassuring, thankyou very much!! :flowerforyou:0
