Power plates

Not sure if this is in the right part of the forum or not, but I'll ask here anyway.

The gym I use has a couple of power plates (?) I've never seen them used until a couple of weeks ago. When I took my tour around the gym in the middle of last year, and when I had my induction, the staff just said "we have a couple of power plates" as we walked by them.

So, what are they for?
Are there any benefits to using them?
What do you do on them (I only caught one person standing on one while I was moving from the leg press to the hip machines)
I have a recurring knee injury, would the power plates help, not help, or make it worse?

Many thanks
T :)

The newest fad. Destined to replace CrossFit.

Or maybe not. It's based on the same idea as shakeweights and the old vibration equipment from the 50s.

So from those comments I guess they arent worth using at all?

If that is the case, maybe that is why I havent seen people using them until very recently.

I just wondered if it could add anything at all to my workouts.

I use them for stretching and massaging muscles after my workout and I find it eases the tightness. They are "supposed" to give you the same workout in 10 minutes as half hour in gym. Thats Tosh! But it has some uses.
