best affordable blender? (btwn $50-90)

I have a smoothie every day, sometimes twice a day. I got a blender 3 weeks ago and two days ago it just stopped working. Then I read reviews and everyone had the same experience that I did, all had broken blenders within weeks of purchase. Now I'm looking for a new blender and reading reviews of other brands at target, they all seem to be mixed. Has anyone had a good experience with their affordable blender? I'm not expecting the moon, I just want it to at least work for a year...

I love the NInja my hubby got me for christmas....it is a little big for a single smoothie, but it works better than any one I've ever had. ($89 @ walmart)

Mine's an Oster...I've had it since I was married to my ex-husband, and we bought it shortly after the wedding, which was in 1987, so that tells you about quality. I don't know what they are going for now.

I've done everything from smoothies to margueritas to iced coffee drinks in it.

I just popped over to google and I see WalMart has an Oster 14 Speed (which is really similar to mine) for $39.99.

Bought a magic bullet recently for $50 and I love it. Way more convenient than my more traditional blender, which has now been relegated to a cabinet.

I originally only intended to use it for protein shakes, but now use it for everything from grating Parmesan cheese to making smoothies.

gonna put a second vote there for the ninja, its great for protein shakes and smoothies but i also use it for home made ice cream, soups, frozen ice treats for the kids, fruit purees for recipes, etc.

I picked up a KitchenAid 5-Speed blender at target about a month ago, so I can't comment on the long term reliablity, but the reviews are good, and it's been great so far. It was $99, but I got a $20 gift card at checkout when buying it, not sure if they are still doing that.

  • It is so helpful to hear your experiences.

(The one I had was Hamilton Beach I bought for $50, it was great...for three weeks. Then it stopped working.)

Juliemouse, that is amazing you are still using the same blender since 1987! I don't think they make 'em like that anymore!

Thanks everyone! I will check out your recommendations online now, I'm hoping to get something new in the next day or two. I can't live without it :(
