Treadmill Reccomendation?

So I have a treadmill that we got last year for $15, while it still works; it makes tons of noise and the display doesn't work....
Tax return should be here in a week or so and I am looking for another one...

I would love your input as to which one and why you would recommend it.

Requirements:

Preferably under $1200
has a fan - not required; but would be nice.
mp3 compatible

Other than the above requirements anything else is just a bonus... Okay hit me with it... Thanks in advance...
Or should I get an elliptical?

I'm also looking for a treadmill. I've been reading the runners world forum and have a few ideas. For starters, if your budget is 1000 or less they say to watch Craigslist for a quality model. In my market There's a ton of cheaper ones made by icon (nor**** track and proform) and those are not recommended.

Since it appears you may want to buy new, check out lifespan and spirit. Both have different lines that have different spec. In general it looks like the more you spend, the heavier the runner can be or the faster you can go.

    I just bought this treadmill.

So far I LOVE it! It has a fan, preprogrammed workouts, up to 15% incline, and you can use your iPod with it. And buying through Amazon, there was no tax. They delivered it to the house so we didn't have to try to figure out how to get it here.
  • I bought a Golds Gym treadmill from Walmart and have had it for over a month now. It has been a very good treadmill considering it only cost $350. It has an incline feature which I really like. I use it 5-7 days a week and it works really nice. It runs very smooth and works great for me.

I have an older ProForm 730cs treadmill that I bought 15 years ago from Sears. It is very solid.

What I did not know when shopping for a treadmill was that they have weight limits. This is something that is important to keep in mind when shopping for a treadmill. Mine has a 250-pound weight capacity.

I was right at 250-255 (fully dressed) the last time I got on my treadmill. I did not have any problems. The belt did not catch or slow down. But then, I was not running or jogging on it. I was just walking.

Another thing to look for is ease of moving it. Mine has wheels on the back that is SUPPOSED to make it easier to move. But the weight distribution makes it difficult (impossible for me) to get good balance while having a good grasp of the unit.

My treadmill comes with pre-programmed training, which I don't use because even the lowest impact is too hard for this old, out-of-shape body. But if you are in decent shape, you might enjoy having a pre-programmed workout, where the machine slightly increases and decreases speed and elevation.

Mine also has an iFit capability, which means you can add additional pre-programmed workouts using an iFit cd. Again, this was something I was never interested in, so if I had a choice between two models and that was the only difference, I'd take the cheaper one without iFit capabilities.

Also, my treadmill is loud. Not so loud that it bothers someone in the next room, but loud enough that I have to turn up the TV to hear it. But then, I also have a mild hearing problem that makes it hard to hear conversation when there is background noise.
  • Thanks guys... Those both look really nice.. I really like that Gold's gym one...
