And I mean that literally. I just started walking on the treadmill this week and only did a mile today and im freakin sore! I did all my stretching and even wore my new Nikw Shox.

I notice when i walk on the treadmill i feel like Im going to lose my balance. I am trying to pay attention to how my feet land and take off and i hit hard on my heel and my feet turn outward, like a duck. I try to walk with my toes pointed straight and its hard to train my gait this way. My IT band around the knees have a dull ache and my arches are cramping. Man am I out of shape.

But I am okay with this as I know each day I will get stronger. Better.

For you walkers out there, what is the best approach for beginners?

Pace yourself and take your time. As you walk more, it will become easier and you will be able to walk faster and farther. This isn't a competitive contest, this is about growing into something you haven't done for awhile. Many sport injuries happen when people get in a hurry and push too fast, too hard, too early.

    You can do it!

I like walking outside better than on the treadmill however it's been so cold lately I haven't been doing anything. Keep it up. It does get easier the more you walk.

Try taking shorter steps. The idea is for your feet to land under you, not in front of you. For some reason most ppl have a tendacy to take much longer strides on a treadmill. When I corrected that alot of my soreness stopped. ( Not an expert just my experience)

Yeah this. When you take huge steps, you throw your hips out of whack, & your foot hits the ground at an awkward place.
