Concept 2 Rower

Anybody on here using the Concept 2 Rower? I'm considering it as my next addition to workout equipment in my home gym. I like that it is a full body exercise and seems to have some interesting software to track your workouts, row in virtual races, post your results for rankings, etc. Just wondering what your experience was and if all the software and virtual activities kept you motivated? thanks

If I could afford one and had the room, I'd buy it in a second! It's an awesome piece of workout equipment.0

I own one and it was a great investment. I do a lot of interval training on it and it kills me
added: I don't use the software but know people that do and love it. They can't wait to get on it and compete0 -
I LOVE C2 ROWERS!!! Not familiar with the software though. Just use them at the gyms I go to. Its my preferred form of indoor cardio though.0

I highly recommend rowing as a great full-body workout. When done properly and with sufficient effort, it burns more calories per minute than many other cardio. exercises while toning your muscles. However, if you use the machine even the slightest bit incorrectly, you can really do some damage (especially to your lower back and/or shoulders). If possible, I would suggest having an experienced rower (maybe from a local rowing club, university, or high school) show you how to use it properly and possibly do a few workouts with them.
I have been rowing for 12 years (including competitively in college and afterwards), and it really pains me when I see people using it incorrectly. It is not only harmful, but it's usually inefficient. If you want to get the "biggest bang for your buck" literally and figuratively, it pays to do it correctly. There are videos on the site and on YouTube that might help if you aren't able to have in-person instruction.
Best wishes!0 -
as a former rower, it's hard for me to get on a C2 without having flash backs to erg tests and spending way too much time on one of those things, but it's an awesome piece of equipment.
One word to the wise: When not in use, leave the handle by the fly-wheel, NOT in the little resting spot. If you do, over time, it will wear down the recoil mechanism. I wish C2 would put a notice on the machines so the ones in health clubs don't become virtually unusable so quickly.0 -

I completely agree! I was a coxswain at my old college and it's really hard for me to not go correct people using the erg wrong! I agree that is an amazing workout as well, rowers have incredibly physiques!!0 -
Yep! Me! And I LOVE it! All your hard work will be stored on a memory card in the little monitor on the machine. and there are also a series of programs in there or you can create your own. Register yourself with concept2.com website and you will find a lot of info about rowing and exercises there and a logbook to log your workouts and they produce pretty neat stuff. .
There was a Virtual Team Challenge last month and teams compete to see who can row the most in the whole of January. My virtual team (a few to choose from) Free Spirit came 7th with 19,714,000 meters. And I did 175,000 meters in January which is not bad for this 51 yr old mum! And since 30th September I have rowed 607,000 meters..that's how much I love the C2 machine!
What I find best is following the C2 Weight Loss Program and it worked for me. Apart from losing weight you WILL get a much toner body and if you are REALLY lucky, a 6-pack! (I'm still working on mine!) As the others already said it is a fantastic full- body workout provided you do it CORRECTLY. There are some good instruction videos in You Tube to have a look at.
So..if you can invest in one, do so by all means and you won't regret it , promise you that! Good Luck.0 -
Thanks everyone for the feedback. I think I'm in and I'll concentrate on form when I first get it since not getting hurt is always my first exercise goal!0
