Chocolate After Lunch

If you're like me, after eating my lovely healthy lunch that I bring from home, something's often missing. Almost instantly I have a huge craving for something sweet. What I used to do was ignore this feeling. I might have a cup of tea or drink a bunch of water and try to forget about it. The whole afternoon I would feel crabby, my road rage would be intensified on the commute home, and once I got in the door I would start raiding the refrigerator. The last time I was at the grocery store I bought a big Hersey's Dark Chocolate bar. After I'm done eating my lunch, I've allowed myself to have 4 squares which is 1/4 of the bar and 115 calories. I eat them really slowly and really enjoy it. I've noticed since that I'm much happier! I look forward to this little pleasure.

It also helps that dark chocolate is good for your health. I came across this website: http://www.chocolate-for-health.com/ and discovered that you should be buying dark chocolate that has 70% cocoa (the one that I have is only 50%, but I did see the 70% and even an 85% one at the store).

I guess the moral of the story for me is that this little indulgence is helping me not binge later and is even improving my mood. So whether you like dark chocolate or something else, maybe sometimes it's best to give yourself a little bit of what you want and not try to fight your desires all the time!

I like that!! Especially since I luuuuurve dark chocolate! My problem though, is that if i have a little bit of chocolate, I crave more. And if i can't find/have more then I'll start waning something - anything sweet. So, so far I've avoided chocolate as much as i can - but maybe it's time to rethink that....

I do the same thing. I savor my little bit and I don't go eating everything I see when I get home.

Welcome to the "dark" side. :)

So far I've done really well avoiding sweets and when I have really needed to give in, I usually reach for Kellogg's Fruity Snacks in my work vending machine (80 cals per serving and there are 2.5 so I usually split it into 2 snacks and am good for the day as far as sweets goes) but lately I've been really craving some Hershey's chocolate. I may grab one after work since I'm due for my TOM anyway! :)

I've got to have a little every day. I usually buy Dagoba or Endangered Species brands. The ES has a great 88% Dark It's called Black Panther.

I am not a big fan of sweet foods but since starting to eat healthier I have found I have more of a sweet tooth than before and am not craving savouries such as crisps (potato chips) like I used to, not sure why that is..... lol

Anyway I have also started eating dark chocolate (after hearing the health benefits etc) and I have a few squares every now and then (every day if I am hormonal, lol)

I get Green and Blacks dark chocolate with cherries, its yum!

I got a box of Lindor chocs for mothers day though, which are 70 cals each, so have been making my way through those instead for the last 2 weeks, I have one left now and will be enjoying that tomorrow :)

If I have ran out of calories for chocolate or just dont have any in the house, I have a 40 calorie hot chocolate, I love the mint options one, mmm
