Hi! I just thought I'd introduce myself. A week ago I thought I had a thyroid problem and I went to the Dr. I was 236 lbs at 5'9" and couldn't figure out how I got to be at the heaviest weight I had ever been.

Well, it turns out I didn't have a thyroid problem (luckily) but I did have a problem with over eating and poor diet decisions. I was in total denial. My doctor suggested I might want to take a diabetes test. I couldn't believe it. Was I really that bad?

So, I immediately downloaded the MFP app on the iPad and began to meticulously measure and count calories. I now average about 1400 calories a day, and have already lost 6 pounds. My overall goal is to get to 160 but 170 would be fine with me too.

I am starting to do some work outs, but I am still pretty out of shape :).

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to go about getting in better shape? I am starting out small, doing the exercise bike for 10-15 min a day and 20 lb weights for arms 3x a week. I work retail and move around a lot at work, but I want to boost my activity. Did anything work? Do most people start off with a little bit and work their way up? Or do people have success at just the diet part?

I also have to say, everyone's before and after pictures that I have seen today have been a huge inspiration and enabled me to push myself a little bit harder for my work out. You guys are so amazing! I am so happy to have found this community.
