Accurate BMR rate

Options
I wonder if anyone has had the same issue? When I signed upto MFP and entered my details, my BMR has been estimated at 1700, so my calorie allowance every day is 1200.

I've just been looking at other sites and the results vary from 1300 to 1900. How on earth are you supposed to know which one to believe? Because I'm only trying to lost a lb a week, if my BMR is estimated as 1700 on here and it should really be, say 1500, then I'm only cutting out 300 calories per day.

This is a formula I've discovered somewhere:

Women:

BMR = 655 + ( 4.35 x weight in pounds ) + ( 4.7 x height in inches ) - ( 4.7 x age in years )

Which would work out as:

(4.35 x 147) + (4.7 x 160.02) - (4.7 x 117.5)

639.45 + 752.094 - 117.5 = 1274.044

If you are sedentary (little or no exercise) : Calorie-Calculation = BMR x 1.2

Total = 1528.85

from bmi-calculator.net

My thinking is that consdering so many people have lost a weight on here, maybe I should just stick to the MFP estimate? Bearing in mind I don't have a load to lose....

THANKS!

    The 1274 # you calculated is your BMR, the 1528.85 is your TDEE.

    Although your math looks weird, since you clearly aren't 117.5 years old and aren't 160.02 inches tall.

    You can have your RMR professionally tested. I had mine done. I am gald I did. I stared off with the 1200kcal a day and I couldn't figure out why I would keep hitting the plateau at the same weight. I had mine tested and because I was doing the 1200kcal a day I shot myself in the foot and my metabolism dropped drastically. My RMR is now 1340, which it should be closer to 1600 or 1700 like you said.
    Getting tested is relatively inexpensive and it's really easy. All you do is lay down in a quiet room and relax. You breathe in and out of a mask for 20 minutes, but you can't fall asleep. After that, they take out any other data that will skew the results and voila! Your RMR is tested. I recommend getting it done so you know what you shouldn't drop below in order to stay on track and keep your metabolism up. Good luck with your goals and feel free to ask me if you have any questions.

    Hey, I could be that old mind! Actually, I'd accidentally put the totals that'd I'd already worked out. there instead of the real numbers...oops. What does TDEE stand for?
