Need to lose 95kg (210 pounds) over a two year period

Hello,

I'm out (yet again) to try to lose 95kg to get myself to my desired or practical mass of 81kg.

Tried a lot of diets and exercise programs before. Nothing with permanent success.

Best result was dropping from 176kg to 121kg in 2000, Also managed to get from 192kg to 149kg in 2006.

It's not that I can't ... it's just that I let other factors impose themselves over my willpower.

I don't just hope to do better this time. I PLAN to do better.

Regards,
Green Peace

Congrats! Seems like a reasonable, but tight, timeframe. No wiggle room if something off-book happens. What's the rationale behind the end date? Don't get me wrong, its doable if nothing happens, but I am just wondering if you are prepared to weather any storms that come along?

What's the current plan? Modest deficit, cardio, lifting weights?

Man, I feel tired just thinking about losing that much... If I had to lose that much in 2 years I think it would be like a full time job & then some... I have 1/4 of that to lose & I already feel like that's a full time job lol. I guess are you ready to sweat?
  • 2 year period ... that goal is a long way off.. perhaps you should break it down into shorter time frames, a few kgs at a time.

Have purchased a gym membership upfront ... 24/7 gym just between home and work on my commute.

Plan a five or six visits per week rota with 70-90 mins of moderate paced exercise and weights.

    Oh yeah.

Have come part way a number of times before but let job and personal factors sabotage me.

    I know about sweating.

That's a great way to get yourself to the gym!
I did that too when I first started since I knew I'd be more likely to go if it was on my way.
My current one is about half a mile ( round trip) out of the way lol

You said cardio & weights - what are you thinking of doing?
Like do you have a specific lifting program in your head?
    A cardio routine worked out?

Indeed ... and I have broken it into achievable smaller divisions.

    Yes.
Was doing fine with regular gym attendance a couple of years back.

    Plan is:
    10-12 mins cycle
    12-15 mins treadmill
3-5 mins at each of the 13 weight stations around the gym floor
    8-10 mins ski machine
    Shower
    Off to work.

About two months shy of my retirement date.

Two years is not set in stone. I really don't mind if it takes 3+ years ... as long as the trend is good.

    That's a great start!
Once you get back into the swing of things, I highly suggest moving off of the weight machines & into using free weights

Also, why so much switching between the cardio machines?
I'd pick one cardio machine for a warm up & then potentially a different one for the cooldown.
It just seems to me to be a waste of time switching machines, inputting data, wiping them down, etc

One good bit of news, despite nearly 20 years of morbid obesity, is that I have had annual medicals and full path tests every July.

I can't believe that I'm not a type 2 diabetic but my numbers are basically pretty good.

I used to play lots of sports until career-ending injuries one on top of the other between 35 and 37 years.

I played outdoor football (soccer) from age 9 to age 37, futsal (indoor soccer) from 20 to 36 years, badminton from 18-30, squash from 17 years to 43 years, table tennis from 12 years until 42 years.

So the sports genes are good.

What I eat is goo stuff ... but just way too much of it for the sedentary lifestyle that's come along.

I cut my alcohol way back in the 2006 diet and that was wise. I've let that creep up again but will all but give it up again.

I have some good mentors and family supporters.

I'm expecting them to be more up front with me in 2013.

Also, why so much switching between the cardio machines?

Well, to be frank, dodgy knee joints. I need to change and get into a different type of cardio machine regularly because my knees struggle to do much more.

I do know from past experience that, as the body mass falls away, the knee tolerance goes up.

My knees and ankles have been doing double duty for far too long.

So, I'm not out for a fast-paced "kill myself" exercise program.

    Lots of movement and repetition.

    Plenty of perspiration.

    Moderate eating and drinking.
