I think I can... I think I can!

Hello fellow losers!

I am started my transformation at 220 pounds on January 2 of 2013. In the last 2.5 years I have had a relationship change, moved twice (currently 900 miles from my 'home'), had a job change and suffered through some family problems. I've always had poor self esteem and used food for comfort. My favorite way to relax was to sit in front of the tv and eat half a bag of Doritoes. Not only my weight, but my general health had been compromised - I was having a lot of pain in both hips and old knee injuries and plantar fascitis were limiting my mobility.

I've lost weight in the past - 55 pounds the first time and 35 the second time - both on the WW program. But due to stress, poor self control and just plain laziness I put all that weight back on again. This is the first time I've had success with any program other than WW.

I began by tracking my calories and using what I learned in WW to help me make better food choices. I started walking 3-4 times a week on the treadmill. I did a lot of research into nutrition and discovered that I needed to trade in my bad carbs for good carbs. So I've made the switch to brown rice and 100% whole wheat bread products and pasta. I've eliminated potatoes and other high glycemic index foods from my diet. I'm trying to limit sugar and reduce my salt intake. I've cut down or eliminated diet soda and am drinking more water. A LOT more water. I bought a food scale and I weigh my portion size now.

As the pounds melt away I've rediscovered my love of exercise. What I once dreaded - I now look forward to! I've added Zumba DVDs, Wii Fit and Wii Dance! to my workout arsenal along with a stability ball and strength training.

Even though I've only lost 13 pounds I can already tell my jeans are looser. The pain in my hips is decreasing and it doesn't hurt to walk up the stairs anymore. My motivation is high and my self esteem is increasing. And I just generally FEEL BETTER.

I find myself really looking forward to the spring and summer. I plan on showing off my new body at the beach this year and getting my rollerblades back out.

Superbowl Sunday is going to be a test of my willpower. What healthy snacks do you have planned for the big game?

I'd love to share my journey with some health and fitness buddies - particularly in the Boston or Indianapolis area.

Thanks for reading!
