Buying vs Making cereal

Breakfast is super important I know, but the stuff in the shops is so often really sugary and horrid - and sometimes I want something different from the usual, porridge!

If you make your own, share the recipe please!

I've been testing making granola, without loads of sugar ... not very sweet but really low in calories :Dhttp://www.sarahsuperfluous.co.uk/blog/2013/02/02/i-made-granola-and-it-was-awesome/

  • My kids were eating cereal every day. That was probably my biggest wake up call. I haven't bought any for 3 weeks now and they have lived, lol.I tried this recipe and the whole house loves it. Super easy and cheep!
    2 tbsp creamy peanut butter
    2 tbsp honey
    1/4 tsp cinnamon
    1/4 tsp vanilla extract
    1 cup oats
Preheat oven to 325. Combine pb and honey and microwave about 20 seconds. Stir.
Stir in cinnamon and vanilla to mixture. Add oats and stir. Spread out on cookie sheet after spraying with non-stick spray.
Bake for 7-9 minutes. Let cool and it will become crunchy.

I have been having it with fat free whipped cream and peanut butter for dessert. My kids are eating it on top of fruit smoothies. They will not eat plain oatmeal so I figured this cant be near as bad as the store bought sugar they were eating.

Great recipe. But to me, granola is a snack, not a breakfast.

For breakfast, I like to have eggs or meat, or meat with my eggs.

Hmm, didn't think about adding peanut butter to the granola! Sounds amazing though :D
