Not sure how silly this question is....but.....

I have a heart rate monitor, and I do Insanity workouts 5 days a week. The monitor states that I burn on average 350 calories per workout.
I have read a few posts recently whereby people who may not be a fit as myself, maybe starting out Insanity for example, and weigh more than myself, some by 100lbs more, burn waaayyyy more calories than me?
I am not having a dig at anyone heavier or less fit than myself I am more interested in how calories burn with relation to size weight fitness levels etc.
As you may have guessed I am quite new to this......

the harder it is to do something, the more calories and energy required to do will take.

obviously if it's easier for you then you're not going to need as much effort

I didn't search the other site so if I'm repeating some of that, sorry. But the fact that you are more fit means you are more efficient and are not expending the same amount of work the out of shape person does. Even with myself, the more weight I lose the more efficient a swiimmer I am and don't need to make my body work as hard. It burns more calories for a 250lb. person to swim 500 M than a 150lb. person for the same distance. My time in the pool has not increased but my distances have for basically the same burn. I hope this helps.

    Simple physics. Work = Fd.

Calories are a measure of energy. It takes more energy to move a large mass than a small one.

It is frustrating though isn`t it? I have some MFP friends that can bun 1,000 + calories just going for a walk. I often suffer from burn envy.

It's all about how efficient you are with the workout and basically as you mentioned levels of fitness. If you did the same workout for a year and lost 30lbs doing it, your burn could half the cals per exercise in month 12

The calorie burn is easier for us way larger folk in the beginning - but don't worry - soon we'll be cussing the burn too lol :)

Friend at my job logged in her 7min walk, and burned like 45 cals during her lunch break - i came back from my break and posted my 7min walk and burned like 115....

few min later, she stuck her head out of her cubicle and goes, "so i see you walked during your break! that's so good. By the way, how come..."

and I go "i know exactly what you're going to say - and it's cuz i'm wayyyyy bigger than you. but don't worry, soon it'll suck for me to exercise too" haha.
