The cost of eating healthy

Check out this link. I love looking at these. Definitely blows the myth that eating healthy is expensive.

Per single person, it is extremely doable to shop decently healthy on a limited budget. If you are trying to fend for a household that has no interest in eating what you'd like to eat (and little to no money to shop for yourself), then you're going to have a more difficult time.

Not trying to pick a bone with you, particularly. I just get tired of people claiming that my 60-100 dollars a month budget (which is substantially higher than many's food budget) can stretch over 2 absolutely different diets.

For us it is! By far. We used to live on rice, potatoes, pasta, and good farm raised meat and eggs. I still have all my awesome animals that turn into freezer packs eventually, but living in a place where I only have 3 months(if I am lucky) to grow my own veggies, healthy food is pricy. I always used to be able to keep the grocery buget at around $400 a month for 5 of us. Again, that did not include the meat and eggs and whatever I can get canned or into the freezer from my garden. I spent $200 last week alone and was at the store 3 times to fill up on fruits and veggies. For example: bag of spinach does one salad as a starter for my family or lasts just me 3-4 days. 2-4 bags a week at $4 a bag. 1% milk in gallon size lasts 3 days if we are lucky between drinking straight, topping oatmeal and tea, and bits of baking here and there, $6 a jug. Apples, non organic, mid range to avoid the grainy ones, approx 8 apples $9. We go through at least 2 bags a week. We are spending a lot to eat well. Feel better for it, have more energy, my husband and I are losing, but for any very low income family in rural Manitoba eating healthy is very pricy!! I am lucky to be able to afford it, having grown up poor and eating crap you can bet I appreciate this immensly! Not everyone is so lucky though.
