sugar intake

I have been using www.myfitnesspal.com for about a month. I have noticed that while I have no difficulty keeping calories, carbs, sodium, protein and saturated fat within the guidelines provided, I have great difficulty staying within the sugar guideline. I don't eat a lot of sweets, though I do eat a fair amount of fruit. How far over the guideline on sugar is actually a health risk, if all the other numbers are within guidelines? Total carbs are well under the guideline.
