hi all ,,
i want to ask about logging in the calories burned using a heart rate monitar , i'm using a polar one and when i compare the calories i burned doing an exercise to the mfp database i find that it's not the same , i know it's only estimated in here but i also heard that HRMs are not that accurate too , so should i log what it says in mfp or what's on my hrm ?

Neither is spot on but the HRM is *more* accurate as it is more personalised.0

HRM takes your personal level of fitness based on your heart rate into account... MFP only uses weight and age.. the HRM is usually more accurate.0

thank you ^_^0

I take my HRM--it is lower than the MFP but seems more accurate to me--maybe not spot on but closer.0

I have a HRM and I log what it says. I am normally pushing a toddler in a jogging stroller when I am walking or jogging and I usually burn close to 100 calories more than what MFP says because MFP isn't taking into account the weight I am pushing as I am exercising.0

I log my HRM calories burned. I use it while on the machines at the gym and it is very close, a little lower, so I trust my HRM. I do a lot outside of the gym, so I need it for tracking.0

Could anyone suggest a HRM?? I had one but it quit and it was just a cheap one from walmart, I would like one that will last plus be accurate and not extremly expensive.
Thanks for any help.0 -
A Polar FT4 is a good model if you want a basic monitor with a chest strap.
For logging I'd go with the HRM. If you want to get more accurate you can deduct your BMR calories for the time that you were working out.0
