So I've signed up for a Warrior Dash...OMG! What'll I wear!?

Warrior Dash...June in Illinois...I'm registered and committed <and thinking I may need committed>...and now I realize I'm also clueless! So seriously, what do you wear to a dash over obstacles and through mud? I recognize that I'm rather uncoordinated, and to avoid injury, running in a plastic bubble seems rather impractical...so talk to me about damage mitigation. And glasses! WTH! Should I go with contacts? Running with glasses gives me headaches, so am I better off running blind? What's the real likelihood I'm gonna end up with mud in my eye? I need help!

I did my first one last year and just wore shorts, old tennis shoes and a t-shirt. I made sure they were a light wicking material as not to hold onto water and not to weigh me down. (or fall off!) There is a check in for things like glasses, bags etc. As far as mud in my eyes, I was covered from neck down but my face (eyes) were fine. Good luck and have tons of fun! It is a blast and my group is signed up again for this year!

I threw out all those clothes, I kept the medal. I wore an older pair of sneakers because everyone throws them into a pile for the homeless.

We raised money for St Judes and since we raised so much we were able to have a shower after the race not just get hosed down by the local FD.

I changed into dry clothes and discarded what I was wearing. Between now and June I'm sure you can raise 250 dollars, for the showers (and some food but whatever) It's for the Children...

Good question...I'm thinking just old stuff. I don't usually run with my glasses...I'm not totally blind. I can't wear contacts. So, I think I'll pretty much look like a regular version of me on the weekends.
  • Warrior dash was pretty easy. 90% normal road running on flat ground. The only obsticale that got you muddy was in the last 50 yards of the race.

Wear light quick drying clothes that feel ok when wet (not cotton). Wear good footwear and lace it up tight. Other mud runs where I actually had to run through mud it sucks at your feet.

consider knee / elbow pads you will probably have to army crawl in gravel / dirt

I'm not totally blind either. Went skiing once without glasses on and it was like a bizarre dream...everything with fuzzy edges...it was a little freaky. The thought of mud in my eye with contacts in sounds worse though.

Oh man, I did my very first ever Warrior Dash last year. Here's my thoughts:

    1. I had to wear my contacts....best decision ever! My glasses would've been scraped up.
    2. Should've worn two lots of exercise pants....I ripped my pants and scraped up my backside due to the rough terrain.
    3. Wore 2 bras, plus 2 singlets. Also a good decision.
    4. Threw my muddy joggers into the washing machine twice. They came up fine!
    5. Should've sat in ice when I got home. My body was so sore for days afterwards.

The dash that I did here in Australia, was in extremely hilly terrain (I'm talking, more than 15% incline of hills) and I felt very very underprepared for the dash. Thus the pain for days afterwards.

Have fun! I plan to do it again this year, but be more fit for it this time (I didn't feel very fit at all last time, and I really hope there's less rain next time).
