Can of tuna

Is eating a full can of tuna yourself a bad idea? I recently started eating all of it to myself after a workout or on a whole wheat/grain sandwich. Sometimes I'll cut the tuna in half and keep the other half for another day and keep it covered in the fridge.
Is this ok to do?

Why wouldn't it be? It's lean protein...0

I believe eating that much everyday isn't the best due to the mercury in it... however just research the symptons of mercury poisoning and if you don't experience them than I wouldn't worry. You can also get canned chicken or ham as something else besides Tuna... or precook a bunch of chicken breast to have quickly after a workout instead of Tuna all the time.
For storing it, I wouldn't store it in the can. Anything I have in cans that has leftovers I will put into a plastic/glass container to keep in the fridge.0 -
I worked in food service a long time ago and we were forbidden from storing anything in the can after we opened it. It don't even remember why at this point (flavor issue or health issue or something else) but I'd get some reuseable tupperware type containers (even the cheap semi disposable ones they make these days).0

All the above, plus tiinned in oil or brine ? both have problems if on daily basis0

I'd eat it all at once and limit the amount you eat in a week. I've switched to canned salmon, but you can eat up to 12 ounces a week of tuna and be okay. And white albacore tuna is higher in mercury, so I avoid that.0

I eat a can of tuna almost everyday. I don't think it's bad at all, but you will get a lot of responses about mercury though. Definitely store it in another container as well... And if you're looking for other sources of protein try canned salmon or grilled chicken or eggs. Definitely my favorites. Tuna gets boring after awhile.0

It might give you bad breath. But half a can might do the same.0

If you are not eating it everyday it won't hurt you, and if you use the low sodium it is even better. I asked my nutritionist who said that canned tuna 3-4 times a week won't hurt you, She also suggested not storing it if you do save some in the can - put in plastic or glass.
Just an fyi, if you like avocado, try mixing it with some - wonderful taste and much better than mayo!0 -
I eat a lot of tuna, although usually don't need to worry about storing it as I share it with my kids. Definitely store it in something other than the tin though.
I cut back on tuna when I was pregnant due to the mercury - they recommend no more than 2 cans a week then. So I'm sure if you're not pregnant then eating more than 2 cans a week is fine.0 -
Half a can of tuna just isn't enough for me (too low in cals), I always eat the whole thing, either in a salad or a sandwich...
I wouldn't eat three cans a day, but a few cans a week shouldn't be an issue. It's quick, easy, cheap, and it's lean protein.0 -
Nothing wrong with eating the entire can. I can't think of a time that I ate half a can. I always eat the entire thing. I quit buying the cans and switched over to the tuna pouches. Those are much more convenient to use and I like the tuna better in this form. Still eat the entire thing.0

There are lots of worse things you could be eating...... lots!!!
Go for it

I had no idea you were not supposed to store the remaining food in the tin... is there a reason? I do it all the time.
Edit I googled it and for safety reasons apparently it is fine to store it in the tin, just the flavor and appearance will suffer (apparently), compared to storing in glass/plastic containers.0 -
I don't see a problem with eating the whole can. I usually eat the whole thing. Unless it's one of the giant cans in which case, I just can't eat that much.
I've gone through phases where I've eaten tuna every day for weeks at a time. Never had a problem with it. I tend to go through phases though. As long as you're happy with it, I don't see a problem.0 -
I eat a whole can of albacore as a snack all the time. Perfect, lean protein. And my coworkers love the smell :devil:0

there is a health issue, there's something in the inner lining of the tin that reacts with the air and does something to the food (can't remember exactly). I've always put leftover contents of a tin in a different container before putting it in the fridge.
OP: I nearly always eat the whole tin of tuna to myself0 -

TUNA POUCHES!!!
they're my best friend0 -
Many years ago, I would have a can or two of tuna every day...and then I tested very high for blood mercury level. So yeah, it's something to consider.
(You'd think I'd learn my lesson, but am currently awaiting another test for elevated mercury level again, this time likely caused by a daily tuna sushi habit.)0 -
I eat a can of skipjack everyday!!
And if you rinse it with cold water first you can cut about 30% of the sodium content0 -

Once you squeeze all the water out of the small cans, there's only about 3 oz of actual fish, so it's fine to eat the whole thing. I eat the whole can, too.0 -
I get rid of all the water and put it in a plastic tub and wrap it up in the fridge. Never leave it in the can.0

I've been known to eat three cans in a single sitting, since I was about 8 years old. No adverse affects thus far. Luckily for me, I found out that I could keep doing this while dropping weight, so long as I stopped putting other crap in it, other than maybe hot sauce. ^_^0
