My mother in law is visiting in a week, and when people visit.. you know all everyone wants to do is eat and drink. I will also feel too rude to get on my elliptical.. Any inspirational words? I know if I drink.. I will completely lose my inhibitions.. I worry so much about this stuff, I almost dont look forward to people staying here Maybe If i just take it easy for the few days they are here.. I wont gain any weight.. hopefully.. Frozen pizzas, hamburgers..brats, chips, beer oh my!

First and foremost, everyone can do with healthy food.
So cook as you normally would cook, and they'll appreciate your healthy attitude.
Secondly, have lots of healthy snacks around. Berries, grapes, apples, oranges, bananas. IF you need to have crackers, etc, then you can get some that have low cals/fat. Compliments makes some great crackers.
Have diet sodas, if they're soda people (President's choice is great for those), and otherwise, have water, crystal lite, etc.
It's your mother in law, so I understand wanting to cater to her, but this is your home and your lifestyle she's entering.0 -
When my uncle came to town and stayed with us, I worked out more. I felt proud of what I am doing. Eating right, taking care of yourself. Maybe suggest going on a stroll after you eat? I'm sure they will understand. You have to come first sometimes.0

if she is visiting YOU, then don't you have some control over what is eaten?? make sure to have lots of fresh, healthy foods in the house and cook really good, nutritious, low calorie meals.
my mother in law is coming tomorrow... i already told her i need the treadmill for 3.5 miles each night b/c i am doing my first 5K ever on may 1 and want to get so used to running that far that is is easy...
if she is supportive in your quest to be healthy, then she should understand!
you will be fine - just remember the goal!!!0 -
Stick to your guns and your schedule. Most people are pretty receptive to the idea of others being in a routine.
Also, while frozen stuff is easy to make, do you really think you're guests want to eat that? Try out some new menu ideas on them - show them the new types of food you enjoy eating.
And Moderation is the key!0 -
Being in Hawaii, everyone that visits me is on another time zone (we are 6 hours behind the east coast), so I get my workout in after they go to sleep or before they wake up. Maybe that'll work for you too! Also, instead of frozen pizzas we make homemade pizzas. Everyone can make one the way they like it and they've all told me it was better than buying from a pizza chain or frozen. I have a bread maker that I use to make the pizza dough. It's so easy!
Good luck! And I agree with the above poster: it is your house and your lifestyle she is entering. She should respect that.0 -
Don't feel rude about your workout routine. Like VictorianJade said, it's your house, your routine, so don't try to change too much because of a house guest. When my parents and brother come for a visit next month I'm still going to work out for an hour every day while they're there because I'll be in the middle of P90X and I will NOT let myself get off course. Granted, I know they won't care and will applaud me for keeping it up and are extremely understanding and encouraging so I won't feel bad about it. I don't know your MIL or her view on what you're accomplishing, but hopefully she'll be just as supportive and won't care either. And I'm all for fresh, home cooked healthy food so stay away from the frozen food as best you can! They might just find some favorites in the meals you cook them0

youre right everyone thank you!! I am such a yo-yo dieter, i usually dont tell people that i am eating healthy.. most people will say " yeah that will last for a month" lol.. But from now on im going to be proud that Im not shoving pizza in my mouth.. and If i do, I'll just have a small slice with lots of salad0

Yes, you should be proud you are trying to better your health!!! And as far as work outs go...I think 45 minutes to yourself is really not much to ask. Good Luck!!!0

I cook healthy meals & try to find outdoor activities for me and my guests while they're here. I do tend to lay off my routine exercise but that's out of courtesy (I get up at 6.30am to workout on the weekdays & the only place I have to workout is like right outside of the guest bedroom door).
I also keep healthy snacks available and try to plan accordingly when we order food or go out to eat. Even if you do take it easy while they're visiting, remember to get right back into your routine as soon as they leave. If you do that, sure you may not lose as much that week (or you may even gain a pound or 2) but it's really not that big of a deal because you're immediately doing something about it.0 -
Stick to your normal routine and serve what you would normally eat, along side her favorites if she requests them. You may inspire her to eat healthier too! Even if she doesn't need to lose weight, most of the population could eat better than they do.
My babysitter is also a good friend and since she's been watching my daughter at my house. Simply being around a healthy pantry and refrigerator totally changed the way she shops for and feeds her family, and she's only been coming to my house for a few weeks. She brings her own food (even though I tell her she doesn't need to) but she prepares all of my daughter's meals and snacks and tried hummus and greek yogurt for the first time because my 2 year old asked her to, lol.
You might get a pleasant surprise and new healthy eating partner out of the visit0 -
