Little by little...

Little by little, a little becomes a lot. That's my new mantra - one I have to keep repeating over and over.

My story is not an uncommon one - always a little overweight as a kid, gradually getting bigger and bigger. I've had some success over the years with weight loss: I lost 80 pounds and 60 pounds previously on Weight Watchers. But I have gained that back and then some. I've always been planning on losing weight - just kept putting it off..again and again. Having never had any real negative health consequences, I guess I never really had genuine motivation to make healthy living a permanent lifestyle. Until last week, that is.

I've had spurts of trouble with my gallbladder over the last year but last week it was no longer something I could ignore anymore. In the process of diagnosing gallstones, I was also diagnosed with having a fatty liver. It felt as though I got punched in the gut when I heard that. It's no longer about wanting to look good or not worry about fitting into airplane seats (those are the worst!), it's about repairing the damage that I've done to my body. So here I am.

A week ago I weighed 320.1 pounds at the doctor's office (I'm 5'3"). This morning I weighed 310.8 pounds. I can't really fathom a true "endpoint" to weight loss just yet, but I'm guessing I'd like to be around 125-130 pounds eventually. More important than the number on the scale is that I want to be healthy! This is going to be a long road, one I know many of you are faced with as well, and I hope that we can all find the support we need to become fit and healthy.

    Hi April,

I also tried Weight Watchers in the past but it just didn't work for me. I know when I was on that program I was constantly thinking about food and how I was going to budget my points. This is my second time using MFP and I am loving it. I hope that what your doctors told you gives you motivation to stick with losing weight and becoming healthy all around. If you would like to friend me that would be great. I love talking with others about this journey in healthy living!!!
