Dietary Supplements

Okay... so this thread may be more appropriate in a group... but the groups it would go in don't seem to have been active for several months so I don't think I'd really get a response there.
Anyway... I've been looking into dietary supplements that are supposedly all natural with no side effects (nuratrim)... and I'm kind of struggling with it... basically, I need someone to talk me out of it. I do have a history with diet pills and fat burners and diuretics that isn't very pretty and I just need some support in reminding me why these things are a bad thing...

You'll lose a ton of weight very quickly then you'll gain it all back when you go off it. Trust me, I've tried quite a few.0

Thank you! Logically I DO know that... but coming from an addiction to these damn things... I'm kind of throw all logic out the window0

For me, plain and simple (I've tried a bunch of them) they wired me up, made me more irritable than usual, and I didn't lose an ounce from taking them.
So I say why bother, they're not going to do anything for you and I see that you know it from your last post, (yay for you!) So, to me your better bet is to talk to a Registered Dietician AND a trainer to help you set up a reasonable meal plan (from the RD) and a reasonable exercise plan (from the trainer) and go for it that way (I FINALLY did both and am still working out the bugs, but I have a plan for both and through both plus here have a good support network that things might be finally turning in the right direction. Best of luck to you!!!0 -
I'm the same way lol I lost like 50 pounds in 3 months with those things once. But I here I am once again....so obviously something went way wrong! Ha Ha.0

Hi Nikki,I agree with all the responses you got so far..
all diet pills make your heart race fast (amphetamines) and eventually some kind of health problem may catch up with you. I took diet pills for years, on and off, and every time I got off them I'd put the weight right back on... my doctor warned me that diet pills are "just a crutch"... and he was right. I stopped the pills because of heart problems and we still can't figure out if it's from years of taking the diet pills and/or the Adderall I started taking recently... but either one of these drugs puts pressure on your heart. There is another side effect of these drugs... doctor's can't figure out why it happens when I take these drugs (it's as though I want to yawn but it gets caught in my lungs and can't get the yawn out, and it causes me more anxiety)... why take a chance and gamble with your health. You're half way there... you know it's bad for you, just think of how worse it could get...
Diet and exercise work, I've done it and I know it works... personal circumstances caused me to put the weight back on (20 lbs) but I'm determined to lose it again.0 -
there is no substitute for proper nutrition and exercise...spend that extra money on quality food...your body will thank you.0
