Dry goods question
How long can you keep dry goods, aka beans, before they aren't good anymore. I realize this might be a stupid question for some of you - but I don't cook much and certainly never with dry beans but I am going to try to start. Also, anyone have any good recipes for beans?

Canned or dry (as long as you keep them dry!) beans will keep practically forever! My fiance (who's the cook in the house) has been making this recipe lately and I love it! http://seattletimes.com/html/foodwine/2020207828_grocchickpeasxml.html. We love curry so he probably adds twice as much spice as they call for, but you just do it to your taste. I hope you enjoy it as much as we do!0

I love dry beans. You can buy a huge bag for pennies a serving. I'm big on Mexican style cooking, so my favorite is pinto beans.
I like to make tostadas...
2 corn tortillas, heated in the oven till crisp
Mashed cooked pintos smeared on them
Add cooked chicken, shredded and mixed with salsa
Top with shredded romaine lettuce in a big pile
Avocado, shredded cheese and my dressing which consists of equal parts salsa and yogurt.

Skinnytaste may have some good healthy recipes that include beans.
Also, I started to cook up a bunch of dried beans and then freeze them in quart size freezer bags. 1.5 cups is generally the amount found in a can of beans (minus the liquid), so I measure out 1.5 cups for each quart ziploc and mark the date on the outside. They will keep in the freezer for up to 6 months. Very handy to pull out and add to a dish!0
