Need advice on short workouts

I literally have about 30 minutes tops a day to do any kind of work out and no time to drive to my gym, except for on weekends. Does anyone have a really effective, intense workout to burn fat that I can do every day of the week until I have time on the weekends for my full workout? Any advice is appreciated!
Just so you guys can uerstand my time crunch, I work 8am-5pm and go to school 5:30-10:30 pm Mon-Fri. So that's why I have such very little time.

  • The 30 Day Shred takes about 25-27 minutes with the warm up and cool down and it's pretty intense with three different levels as you get comfortable with it.

Kelly Coffey Meyer has a whole series of DVDs titled "30 Minutes to Fitness" .... there's strength training, circuit training, kickboxing, step aerobics ... basically anything you are interested in.

collagevideo.com is a great plact to shop for (and view) workout DVDs. It tells you what equipment is required, if the choreography is complex, if it's high impact, etc

I do 30 minutes of HIIT 3x weekly plus a 2 mile run (takes me about 30 minutes once per week), and two 30 minute low intensity cardio sessions twice per week. I use the HIIT to increase my VO2 max and explosiveness...endurance run for aerobic endurance and low intensity for fat burn (usualy just a nice paced walk or mellow bike ride). I never do more than 30 minutes...occasionally will do 45 on my low intensity days. You actually burn less overall calories with low intensity, but more of those calories are from fat...about 85% whereas I burn more calories overall on my run and my HIIT, but only roughly 50% of those are fat calories.
  • Thank you all so much! I'm going to look into all of these suggestions. Gives me hope that I can get into shape even while I'm still in school with this crazy schedule. My boyfriend and I are looking into getting some cardio equipment so that will help as well :)

youtube has mad amounts of workout videos. It's what I did when I started. Some of my favorite channels were blogilates, sixpackshortcuts and insanehomefatloss. They all have tons of 5-20 minute workout videos.

HIIT, definitely. Look at dumbbell work and at bodyweight exercises.
I like to do tabatas of bench dips, push-ups, jump squats, and some type of crunch (a tabata is 4 to 6 minutes of 20 secs work, 10 secs rest). Try 2 8-round tabatas with a break between - better cardio than any machine and some strength work as well.
  • What exactly is HIIT? I've never heard of it.

    High Intensity Interval Training.
Basically, doing high intensity work interspersed with medium or low intensity work.
