Macros...should i set myself or let MFP do it for me??

Im at 124 working down to my goal of 114 i'm just wondering is this the stage where i should be looking at macros and if so how does everyone else know, i've really being going my MFP and mostly watching my carbs to aid weight loss but right now MFP has carbs at 175g and it seems a little high
Is now the time to go 40/30/30...i've heard a lot of people do that, i'm really confused with what to do or should i just stick to what im doing...

  • I do 40/30/30 as well and also track my sodium intake.

Think i may test this out for a week and see how it goes, I don't know how to reach a 90g protein target though...

I had to set my own, as I'm eating paleo/primal.

I do 40/30/30...MFPs defaults were too carb heavy for my goals. Mind you, weight loss isn't really tied to any one particular macro, but I had other goals besides weight loss...namely certain fitness/training goals and also lowering my blood sugar levels and avoiding big spikes.

If weight loss is your only goal then I wouldn't worry about it. A caloric deficit is going to take care of that regardless of your macro settings. I would recommend changing them and upping your protein though to preserve your lean body mass while at a deficit. Cutting the carbs back has also helped in the hunger department...not nearly as hungry as I used to be when my diet was overly carb heavy.

Plain Greek yogurt on anything you would have put sour cream on. Have an extra bit of chicken breast or fish... Have a protein bar. There are many ways to increase your protein intake.

40/30/30 here. MFP sets carbs freakishly high.

I changed mine for the carbs too, and reduced the sodium. My body reacts badly to sodium, I retain water like a sponge...

I have to set mine manually since only 25% (or less) of my diet is carbs. Another 25% goes to protein, using the .8-1 calculation for lean body mass and then the other 50% goes to fat.

Thanks for the advice, weight loss is my main goal but also realising I need to preserve lean body mass as a cut especially as it is just the 10, think i may go 40/30/30 and gave it a good or lower my carbs gradually as i train and see how it works.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions etc.
