Sugar Hangover...?

For the last little while I have been noticing that if I eat a lot of sugary food I feel really crappy the next day. My digestion is all messed up, I can't "go," I feel tired... I'm not talking about bananas or fruit juice here, I mean hard-core, addiction inducing, processed to high heaven sugar. Last night I had three nanaimo bars (for you Americans it's brownie/cookie bottom, custard middle, and a thick layer of pure milk chocolate on top), which is disgusting in an of itself, but that's beside the point. Today I just feel like poo.
I realize that the solution to this is very simple, but I'm just wondering if this happen to anyone else? Or is it all in my head?

YES! Sugar is metabolized like alcohol. You absolutely can get a sugar "hangover". The day after Halloween (I had gorged myself on candy), I woke up feeling like I'd been out drinking. It's amazing. Just shows how it effects our bodies!0

Omg yes! I went to a high tea and they only served sweet things. I honestly think the feeling over the next 24 hours was the same, if not worse than a hangover. I felt sick, like I was going to throw up, I had a headache and was so tired.0

Yep. It's why I don't like sugar. Makes me feel crappy. I feel worse after eating sugar than I do after a night of drinking. And I'm so thirsty after all that sugar.. i can't seem to drink enough water. loll

Yep! I remember the first time I cut refined grains (bread/pasta/etc.) and sugar from my diet....After 3 weeks on a raw food diet we went to an Italian restaurant for Mother's Day and I had salad, bread, and pasta. I didn't think I really over did it on the carbs, but compared to what I had been eating on the raw diet it was total overload. By the time we got home I had a headache, I was so tired I could barely function and I felt like crap the rest of the evening! It was amazing how horrible I felt. After that I swore I would not eat carbs ever again. Sometimes I do eat refined carbs but every time I give it another try I feel so blah...it's just not worth it anymore! I have learned my lesson enough times.0

WATER WATER WATER make sure your body is plenty hydrated before your Sugar Attack and afterwards. This will help your Liver and organs process the sugar easier as well as help flush out some of the inflammation.0

I just googled sugar hangover because I went out for fondue last night (my first time), and woke up feeling like I'd spent the night drinking instead of just dipping fruit and cake into chocolate. Whoa! Feeling that way is why I stopped drinking more than the occasional glass of wine or vodka tonic, but it was a drunken flashback for me. I have impaired glucose tolerance due to PCOS to begin with, so I limit my sugar to 2 pieces of fruit a day and a small piece of dark chocolate for dessert after dinner. I feel better, but now that I know this "hangover" is a result, I'll be passing on the chocolate fondue if I ever go again!0
