Changing Up My Workout - Advice Needed

I've settled into a good strength-training workout that I'm doing three times per week, along with cardio (treadmill on a 15% incline) on those days. I love the workouts and have found that a day of rest in between them is very helpful.

As the weather gets nicer, though, I want to add running outdoors -- I don't love running, but would like to run 5K a couple times per week.

Should I go to two longer strength-training workouts each week, and two runs? Or try to do three strength-training and two runs?

I used to do more cardio sessions each week, but the treadmill kicks my butt - in a good way. I'm doing a 15% incline, burning 300 calories in 20-something minutes at 3.5MPH, often continuing on to 400. Lately, though, I question whether it hurts my strength training to so waste myself right before it. I am somewhat stiff the next day.

Thoughts? Ideas? My heart is with strength training (machines), but I do want to be able to run a 5K fairly easily, too.
