I'm new to this site and need all the help I can get. As you can probably guess from my username that I have gone up and down the scale several times, tried everything under the sun to lose weight. I am down about my current weight and it sometimes gets the better of me. I have a terrific husband and two great kids. I try to start a diet and sometimes have limited success but then I mess up and ... I'm back at square one...again! I hope to hear from others who struggle in the same way and have suggestions that might help me.

All I can say is that it's not easy and it's a constant struggle. Anything like this is hard. Nothing about fitness and health is easy in this day in age, except the fact that we have easy access to the right information which is a big help0

Welcome! Somethings that I have learned so far is, don't think of it as a diet. Think of it as a lifestyle change. Diets don't work!! Changing the way you think of food is. A big thing is portion control. Follow the serving suggestions on the boxes of things you might make, add veggies too. Oh and water, everybody says drink water, drink water, drink water. It really works. Drinking water with every meal, really helps. When you drink water it makes you fuller then eating everything on your plate. And stop eating when you are full. Don't keep eating because there is still food on your plate. Your body is telling you to stop, so stop. There are so many things that I could go on and on about. But everybody is different. You have to find something that you can live with. Something that makes you happy to do. I wish you luck. And if you need help, please do not hesitate to talk about. We are hear to help out and encourage you to do your best!0

Thanks Matty Sparky and tkrall for the welcome. It is a lifestyle change and I do agree that diets don't work either. It will be a hard but rewarding challenge for me. And I'm also finding out that the older you get the harder it is to lose weight!0

I have turned healthy eating into my new hobby and spend alot of time at the food network, recipezaar and other sites looking for ways to cook really tasy yet healthy food.
I have been eating better than ever since I started this "diet" and I lose about a pound a week.
This is going to be really easy so sustain over my lifetime because I founs a way to make everything taste so good!0 -

Hi
I new as well and I can understand your frustration.
First thing, Don't use the word diet.! Refer to it as healthy eating.
Life is about eating healthy but sometimes our body craves so make it a small piece and then go out for a walk. I found over the years that if i deprive myself i end up eating more then if i allow myself to have a small cookie or piece of pie once a week. Just make sure you limit yourself and then it becomes easier. We all fall off the wagon at times but we just need to know that we can get back on.
Happy Trails..0 -
