just need a little encouragement

Hi!
I started eating pretty clean Jan 1. No crap food at all. Mid January I joined a fitness challenge at my gym. It's all about exercise and eating right, I really like how he focuses on all areas of being healthy.
He keeps us after for 15min after our weekly class to go over our food logs (we print off of MFP and if we don't bring in, we owe him 3m on treadmill!) and give us breakdowns of what types of food to eat at what times of the day, etc.
I feel great, and my fitness level started at zero but has really gotten better than I thought this early in (it's a 3 month challenge). I'm working out 5 times a week, mix of cardio, interval training and some strength training.
HOWEVER - I just need a little reminder that I'm not going to see results immediately! I've lost almost 5lbs in 3 weeks. I just really thought with doing everything right, and starting pretty overweight, I'd see more come off.
My pants are actually tighter in my thighs right now....hoping that's just muscles retaining water or not losing fat there yet.....
I notice a tiny bit of difference in my upper waist, shirts are looser there.
Anyone go through something similar? Part of this was I wanted to WIN this challenge - $500 prize! I thought since I was one of the most overweight I'd have the best chance since I have more to lose LOL
But I figured it's a win/win anyway.....I have never felt better, and I know I'm doing it the right way. We just all need a little encouragement now and then, right??

Sounds like you are doing everything right!!! The pants being tighter might be from adding muscle. Don't be discouraged. You don't want to lose too fast. It's important that you feel great Add me as a friend if you'd like.0

I watch a weight loss show and the fitness expert says that 2lbs per week is a CRAZY aggressive goal, and is the most you should lose (healthily).
These people are losing a MAX of 50lbs in 6 months. There was one person who surpassed it, and it turned out he was doing really unhealthy things to get the weight off (which ruins your metabolism, and makes it harder to keep the weight off)
I would set a long term weight or measurment goal and check after 3 months. I feel like checking more than that is kind of a mindf*** (it is for me anyways... things go too slowly)0 -
Well done for making the first steps to a healthier, fitter you! The challenge sounds like great fun - keep at it!
If you're not doing so already, take measurements - Personally I measure EVERYTHING including neck, bust, under bust, waist, hips, butt, thighs, calves and upper arms.. the inches are coming off faster than the lbs for sure.
You have only been doing this for a couple of weeks... and the challenge is for 3 months! It sounds as thought you're doing a brilliant job.. keep with the cleaner eating, exercise and make sure you drink plenty of water (especially working out that much!)
Although it's a competition, really all that matters is the progress you make for YOUR health, your life, and so far you're doing great0 -
Congrats on doing such a great challenge!
Now since you're doing strength training and everything and not just cardio, most likely you are losing FAT. But you are gaining MUSCLE! because muscle weighs more than fat you've more than likely lost way more than 5 lbs in fat and are replacing it with muscle. If this is the case, go by measurements instead of weight. - You'll see way more results0
