I am genuininly confused.

Okay. So MFP has me on 1600 calories a day. I have (started) walking and running (i'd say jogging lol) almost daily.

People say starvation mode is a myth. But also say that people aren't eating enough to lose weight.

So wouldn't that be starvation mode if people are not eating enough to lose weight? A calorie deficient is a sure fire way to lose

weight, that I understand. I am just really confused. I DO want to lose weight. I am not starving or pawing at the fridge at night. I

have my food log open. If someone can clear things up I really really would appreciate it.

Depends on the person, for me I've always lost more when I mixed up my calories a bit, but thats just my own personal experiance ...
As they say on tv (individual results may vary)

When people talk about starvation mode, what they are really referring to is adaptive Thermogenisis, where your metabolism slows (but doesn't stop) in relation to a sustained period of very low calories.

    This may help.

"Starvation mode" is a term thrown around a lot. You have to be eating in the 500 calorie or less range for many months to enter that stage. From looking at your food diary you have no worries on starvation mode kicking in.

So do you think that what I am eating is okay? I'd really like someone to nit pick my diary and tell me if I am doing well or if there is something I should/could be doing. I'd really appreciate it.

Depends on your body, I have a lot to lose, so I have a lower calorie intake, I work out HARD 3-4 x a week. I usually don't eat back my exercise calories, however if I'm hungry on those days, I will eat extra cause my body needs it. It really depends on you. I have had a slow metabolism most of my life due to ED as a teenager, so I have to wake it up so to speak before I can start pumping in all the extra calories. Plus I don't think I could physically eat the additional 800-1200 calories I gain from my workouts. JMO though

Calorie wise what you're eating looks like its fine - varies a bit but unlikely to get a "starvation" reaction. Otherwise it looks pretty good - low on grain foods (was that intentional?) - and a bit more veggies might be good (perhaps a cooked one at dinner?).

It looks like you are handling this really well. I can't wait to see you under the big 200.

You want to make sure that bare minimum you are eating that 1600 calories a day, it already has a defecit figured in based on the goals you set in your settings. It's up to you if you eat back your exercise calories, but if your hungry and they are there, don't stay hungry, eat! Make sure you are eating foods that are awesome fuel for your body, lots of protein to help repair your body after a workout. lower carb. There are lots of low calorie high nutrition foods out there.

forget starvation mode. that's not going to happen to you. there are 2 scenarios that you want to avoid. here's the "quick & dirty" summary:

    a) eating below your BMR consistently for long periods of time (weeks or months)
    b) eating above your BMR, but still at a large deficit below your TDEE, consistently for long periods of time (weeks or months)

in case a), you risk metabolic slowdown and malnutrition.
in case b), you risk losing muscle.

case b) is a special case for obese and morbidly obese people trying to lose weight very quickly. generally it wouldn't apply for people trying to lose 50 lbs or less.

You are doing fine. You are getting enough cals and if you are not hungry, then don't worry about it. Keep with what you are doing.

Make sure you get plenty of protean and do some resistance training to minimize muscle loss.

    You're doing fine.

If you've stopped losing I would try keeping your intake a little more consistent from day to day as your daily totals seem a little all over the place imo. Then maybe you can work on changing one thing at a time to find good levels for you. The types of food you eat seem ok to me.

I'm 5'5 and try to keep my calories intake around 1400 (started at 1200 but stopped losing and got very tired), carbs 150-160g, fat 40g (was eating less fat but again found I stopped losing) and protein should be around 92g but I' a veggie so still working on getting that much daily! I work out for an hour a day and don't tend to eat back exercise calories.

The numbers take a bit of messing around with to find out what suits you so thats why I think more consistence might help at least temporarily.

I agree, last sunday was super bowl sunday...and well. That's all she wrote lol. It's just hard for me to think eat more lose more.

Thanks for the quick and dirty. I like it that way.

hmm i see so many different philosophies on here I think you have to just go with what works for you. I have stuck to a 1200 to 1400 calories daily intake with no (or very few "cheat days") and have lost 70 pounds in the last year. However many people along the way have told me I am eating too few calories for an active guy who is 5'10". But it worked for me.
