Subtracting carbs because you ate fiber??

While getting a handful of low salt almonds, I glance at the back of the bag and it says "5g total carbs - 3g fiber = 2g net carbs per serving". I VAGUELY remember coming across something like this before where it mentioned subtracting carbs because you ate fiber [Im thinking maybe WW says that?]. Anyway, does anyone know why this is? Does the fiber push all the carbs through and keep your body from absorbing them or something? Just wondering

Fiber isn't broken down by the body into glucose, so they aren't counting it as a 'true carb' for the purposes of things like the Atkins diet. So of the 5g of carbs, if 3g are fiber, only 2g count as digestible carbs.0
