Walking outside vs treadmill

Hello all,

I notice a huge amount of difference in the calorie calculation between my treadmill (Treadclimber by Bowflex) and walking outside.

I walk on locked treads, 2% incline. 40 minutes on the Treadclimber yields 600 calories, based on my weight and speed. On my app, shows 450 calories for the same time.

Are both correct, it's just that 2% incline the whole time makes that much of a difference?

i would say that you would actually end up burning more outside if you were consistantly going at a 2% incline because the treadmill pushes your feet backwards. running on a treadmill is basically like running in place except you have a machine pushing your feet backwards. when you are outside, YOU have to push yourself forward. I would get a HRM to see how much you actually end up burning instead of going off of those estimates.

Go by what the HRM says. Treadmills do burn calories
just as walking outside. The workout depends on you,
and once you've used a treadmill for a while, you'll be
able to control your BPM by adjusting speed, and incline.

Walking is better than sitting, but it's not a huge calorie burner. I'd go with the lowest number.

I would expect that, given the uniqueness of the movement, the TC calorie estimating algorithms are a little on the "creative" side.
