Fasting

amid posts of fasting and people trying to get healthier i'd like to point out a few things (note: this does not apply to religious fasting as that is not done for weight loss):

*while fasting for a day or two is not harmful (assuming your fluid intake is sufficient), there’s no evidence supporting its benefit

*fasting for a few days or more IS damaging to the body. You know that the body breaks down muscle to get protein when you are not eating...but do you make the connection that your heart is a muscle too?

*fasting can damage your liver and kidneys, which can decrease in size if you don’t ingest enough protein

*lastly, there is no scientific evidence that fasting detoxes the body. decreasing calories and carbs increase fluid loss, which may give the illusion of weight loss, but it is not actual loss.

In closing I challange everyone to step away from the scale and focus on fitness and nutrition. Your body needs fuel...you cannot expect to withhold nutrition and get what you want from it. How about we stop looking for short term "results" and focus on long term health? You and your body deserve it
