I'm going to be eating 1000 calories a day.Every 3 to 4 days i'll eat 1800 calories. I know people say you can go into starvation mode but I have an 80 yr old grandmother who has lost 26 pounds in 3 months since she hasnt been eating much. Not sure how much I beleive in starvation mode talk. I'll be doing daily entries here to keep me motivated. Im writing food im eating down so I have a menu of what im eating. Turns out there is a lot of food you can eat out there to equal to 1000 Calories. Anyway wish me luck.

Why not just eat 1200 calories per day? If you're eating 1000 calories per day, then every few days you will eat 1800... that means 6 days a week you eat 1000 and 1 day a week you eat 1800.... divide that by 7 days and you're close to 1200 on average anyway. Why deprive yourself?
Also, I'm not sure how old you are... but i'm just guessing your grandma is probably much older than you and her health is probably in a much different state. You don't have to deprive yourself to lose weight and what you've planned out sounds a little like deprivation to me. I don't think its recommened to have less than 1200 each day.0 -
I won't say that I agree with your method. I'm 37 and lose weight averaging about 22-2400 calories a day, but to each his own, I suppose.
I will say that if you really have 40 lbs to lose, you really don't have to worry much about starvation mode for a while, especially if you up those 1800 calorie days to maintenance levels. I will also say that if you are really going to focus on such a restrictive diet, make your calories count - lean protein meats and a lot of veggies. You need to focus on nutrients.0 -
Why did you post this? You aren't asking for advice? You seem to have your mind made up? ARE YOU A TROLL?0

Grandma is likely losing muscle mass along with fat, so probably not a good diet to copy.0

Good luck with that.0

I've been eating about 1300 calories on average for the past two weeks. It's worked out well so far. I eat everything. I'm not really on a diet, just eating less calories.0

There's so little information on your profile that it's hard to say whether this is a good idea or not.
I certainly wouldn't worry about starvation mode as long as you throw in enough feed days.. There's all sorts of intermittent fasting, up day down day approaches so I dont see anything inherently wrong with that plan - what made you decide to go for that?0 -
good luck0

This seems more like a topic for a blog.
Also - why not just average out your daily calories to 1200 a day so you arent 'starving' yourself? I mean yea some times we just dont get the calories in but i'd aim more for 1200 a day, versus 1000 some days and 1800 on other days.

it seems my weightloss plan didnt turn out so great. ive stalled the weightloss after a month. not sure if my bmr is out of whack or what. so my new thing is to eat 1200 calories every other day. In between the 1200 calorie days i'll be eating 2000 calories. I dont log food but most of what I eat tends to be processed so im reading the calories of the labels. I'll try this for a few months and if I dont see any weight loss from this then I may need to start lowering carbs or doing cardio. Ive noticed ive got a lot of fat around the belly so im thinking i may eventually try to cut and low carb for a few months when I have the money.0

Well...ok...but your little agendas are going to get in your way. Just eat decent food in good amounts. Did you input your stats into MFP to get a calorie target...or are you just winging it? The games we play with ourselves .....0

The processed foods aren't going to help. Can you make any meals yourself?0

I did that and weight loss was a lot harder. My body is more balanced with 1200-1600 calories per day....... My body knows I am not throwing it into starvation mode which is a lot harder on u. But then what happens when u lose the weight and go back to regular amounts of calories? WEIGHT GAIN!!!0
