Fiber per Day

Does anyone else find themselves going over the amount of fiber MFP is recommending per day? I'm just trying to balance out my macronutrients more evenly and I understand there will be days it's not perfect... but I go over my fiber ALL the time. MFP is giving my like... 14 grams or fiber and my usual breakfast has like 10 grams... so then if I want fruit or whatever else that has fiber in it I find myself going way over even if my calories overall are correct.

I don't necessarily think it's a bad thing but it just seems to me like the recommended amount it very low. And I have searched around some other places just to compare and they've said for my height/weight/goal that 21 grams per day is a good intake of fiber.

Just curious if anyone else is having this problem... I mean, I'm not going to give up my fiber... or maybe there's a way to adjust MFP to "allow" me more fiber and I can even it out that way after I do some more research about how much fiber is a "healthy" amount for me?

The average american female gets about 10g of fibre per day, what you should be getting is near 25g, so whomever told you 21g is right! I go over, I even take fibre pills it's beneficial!

I follow a mostly vegan diet so I go over daily, one day I ate 80 grams. That was pretty horrible. But if you're eating around 30 I"m sure it's no issue. I usually eat 30-50. Anymore than that sometimes leads to tummy ache and horrible bathroom things.

    Thanks!!

Yeah, I know my body well enough to know that I do need a good amount of fiber but I don't want TOO much... I think I'm gonna stick around the 21 area and see how that goes and if I need to adjust it I will :)

If the negative red number bothers you than you can custom set your goals to the amount you are more likely to be reaching for. It should default everything to your current levels so you don't need to change your calories or anything like that - just the grams of fiber.
  • Fiber is really good for you and "too much" is fine. The only negative thing is it makes it so less vitamins get absorbed, so you want to make sure those are also high.

I didn't know about the vitamin part!! Thanks :)
Yeah, I'm not getting TOO much over on most days and I do take some supplements to make sure I'm getting my vitamins but I'll definitely keep an eye on that too.
  • I was thinking about creating this topic because i was having the same problem! Everyone gave good advice(:
