Good Morning!

SO, the east coast is getting SLAMMED by a blizzard, tomorrow into Saturday. I am struggling to figure out what kinds of foods I can get in preperation, you know.. in case my power goes off. We are anticipating anywhere between 8 inches, to 2 feet!! wide range right? Well, the last time out power went off, it was for 2.5 days!

SO, food wise..All I can think of are basics, peanutbutter, bread, water, and snacks like special K bars.. Anyone have any possible " healthy" ideas?

2.5 days...pshhhht that's nothing. We lost power for 4 days with Hurricane Sandy and 6 days each with TS Irene and the October snowstorm.

All kidding aside, I always keep non-perishables on hand. Canned beans, rice, pasta, quinoa, tomatoes, oatmeal, etc. I have a gas stove, so that is usable during power outages. Also, I have a grill outside and a camp stove, all usable. Worst case, the fridge and freezer stuff goes outside in the snow...it certainly won't spoil!

Oh no! Im in Nova Scotia Canada and I never thought about the power and my food! AHHH

Basically fruits and veg will still be good.. bread in moderation.. I might have to resort to some can foods though..
Ive got rice cakes, crackers, can veg..

Ahh, we will just have to try and take every thing in moderation!!

Im in the rhody area and I feel ya!! I am just going to hope that my power doesnt go out, haha.

All Kidding aside, I would say fruits that dont need to be refrigerated (apples, oranges, bananas, etc.)

Maybe make some food ahead of time that can be eaten in room temperature?

I wish I could help more, I've never actually been through a snow storm (being from KS and all), so I'm just hoping for the best....eek!!

I'm in Boston. If you have a gas stove, just make sure you have a lighter. We have a stick lighter like the one you use to light a grill. You can cook on that.

I'm going to grab some jerky and mixed nuts just in case though. I have charcoal too, so I can cook outside if I have to (after a bit of shoveling)

I buy canned tuna to make tuna salad. I like it on rustic bread or rye crackers. I use EVOO and lemon juice on my tuna salad so the mayo isn't an issue for me (I wouldn't risk using mayo during a power outage...)
