Value of a bottle of wine

How can I find out what an old bottle of wine is worth?? Been reseaching the net and calling people, but no one knows. It was made in 1870 from the island of Madeira.

    I'd call an auction house that specializes in vintage wine.

    Try a local fine dining restaurant and talk to the sommelier. They should be able to at least point you in the right direction

    Of course, you'll only get an estimate. The real answer to the question of value of anything is "whatever someone is prepared to pay for it".

    Ha ha, when I saw the title of this thread I thought you meant ' calorie' value, and I was like "I can answer that!" lol. I love wine. Your bottle is priceless lol.

    Provenance (where and how it was stored) as well as condition it's in goes along way to determining it's worth. That said Madeira is a fortified wine and can age better than most wines, so you might be in luck.

    It's difficult to say. The conditions it was kept in make a difference, as do a lot of other factors. I got a big batch of old wines, and I got in touch with an auction house that was willing to sell them on my behalf. My results were mixed.

    Some of the labels had googled as quite valuable and yet didn't fetch that much.
    Some of the labels hadn't googled as anything exciting, yet fetched good prices.

    Consult a specialist for something this unique.

    What a coincidence. An old friend of mine just drank a very expensiive(thousands of dollars) bottle, that I believe was similar. He didn't offer me any.

    I would find a few higher end liquor stores in your area. The kind of store with separate rooms for expensive wines, and ask them. No one will know the answer immediately, but they will have the resources to find out.
    If you ask a few, you will probably get close to the genuine value.

    You might also call a place like Zachys. They sell many types of wine and may be able to refer you to an appropriate auction house.

    The value is equated by the moment drinking it all. IF you're alone, not so valuable. If you're with someone that enjoys it as much as you....MONEY WELL SPENT.

    That is going to depend almost entirely on how exactly it was stored.

    Who is the winemaker/vineyard? What is the varietal?

    There are probably a lot of unkowns as well, like how it has been stored and handled, which will effect the value. In most cases, unless it was documented as cellared, it is more of an antique piece than some a wine collector might buy. But then again, as other mentioned, you won't know until it goes up for auction.

    I did call a rare wine company and they told me to DRINK IT! They would not comment on the value of it, only that since the bottle is in good condition and it was corked in a lattice fashion it would be very good, so maybe I will drink it on my 50 birthday. Don't want to sell it, but it does make a great conversation piece. It is called Justino's Cercial Dry, Vintage 1912, ; Justino's Henriques Filhos, origin 1870 - Island of Madeira. That is the same yr they started the Brooklyn Bridge, yr of Pope Pius the 9th, that was a very long time ago. This is kind of exciting. I have been on the websites, just can't seem to locate that vintage or yr.

    The wine is actually from 1912. 1870 is when the winery began production. Not quite as old as you may have thought, but still a rare find. Speaking of which, where did you find this?
