Cellulite - Not Just for the Overweight

So I have a question...knowing that cellulite can afflict anyone, regardless of weight, I'm still curious if those of you with it, lost it along with your weight. The back of the legs always seem to be an issue...does it go away or stick around regardless of the weight loss?

I am at a good weight for my height, and I still have the darned stuff. Yup, backs of my thighs. I'm hoping it diminishes as I lower my body fat and gain muscle. However, even my 16 year old daughter who is tiny tiny with super low body fat has it. It's very genetic our family.

I have one really stubborn spot on the sides of my thighs and then there is my buttocks. :)

I had a little in the back of my thighs even at 108 pounds so I think for some people it's just there and nothing you can do about it...

You can still have it in a normal weight, but it typically reduces at the very least. Make sure to be building muscle, not just losing weight. Also, make sure you drink enough water, eat healthy fats, skin brush, and moisturize. All of these things can help a lot with your skin. And while excess fat can cause cellulite, the reason why it's mostly women who have it is because of how our skin is forms (which is different from males). So, anything that you can do for skin health and elasticity is beneficial. Many of the things that people would do for loose skin would apply for cellulite I think.

Also, while not permanent, there are some creams over the counter that work if used daily. But once you stop using it, the effect wears off. I liked the nivea one, as well the victoria secrete one.

Derma doctor just came out with shrinking beauty. I've seen results, it actually works. It's vegan and plant based, and not overpriced.

Oh, and its not just a caffeine cream..

I have always had it, on my bun/thighs since I was 16. I just discovered dry brushing and coconut oil for it. If nothing else I have super baby soft skin but I've heard it works from a few people on here. Also, I do squats, lunges, and the "thigh master" move with my fitness ball.
  • I agree with things dietstokes suggested....along with skin brushing, afterwards, massage an essential oily (mixed with a carrier oil, like almond oil),into affected areas. Some good ones are lemon, rosemary, and geranium...have to masssage the oils into the skin, rubbing areas quite hard. It really does help......I have heard that reducing your sugar intake helps also
  • What is "skin brushing"? What do you brush it with, and for how long?

And I have to say, cellulite is hell for the self esteem. It makes you feel fat even when you know (intellectually) that you're not. What a mind game!

I reversed mine, so it is possible. It took about a year of pretty serious running, leg weights and a loss of 20 pounds, but it is sooo worth it.

    Good luck!!
  • What is this skin brushing a couple of you mentioned? I have never heard of it..

Thanks for all the feedback! I've actually heard of the skin brushing and have meant to buy one several times when I pass up a health food store (think that's the only place you can buy them?). Someone correct me if I'm wrong but it's an over-sized brush that you use on your body and brush upward, toward your heart. Heard it was amazing for skin and as for cellulite, that makes sense. Can't hurt, right? Think I'll pick up one of those this weekend. I know I've heard of other treatments that massage or "pound" the fat away from your skin surface...if that works, I suppose you could try that at home without paying top dollar for treatments. Anyway, glad to know others have at least seen a reduction in appearance since their weight loss - that's encouraging!

I've found cellulite diminished greatly after beginning heavy squats. I do stronglifts 5 x 5; PB squat to date is 155 lbs.

That makes sense - the muscle you built with the squats must be dissolving the surface fat making it less noticeable. Good to know.

    There is the lymphatic dry brushing and then there is just the removal of dead skin cells kind. The best way for me to explain it is this;

Get a natural bristled shower brush. They are where the loofahs and puffy wash things are. Before showering everyday, in long firm strokes from you feet to your neck, arms and back..Butt and ALL. Up ward from the feet to the boobs then down from the neck to the heart area. Honestly it doesn't feel all that great and until you get used to it, it will suck. Anyway, shower as usual. For me, after I get out and pat dry I apply coconut oil all over, face even.(Acne/oily skin EVEN, this stuff is a miracle in a jar!) It will soak in and you won't be all slick and shiny but for a couple a mins.

This forces off all those dead skin cells and stimulates new cells, thus creating softer more vibrant skin. I just added in the coconut oil for moisture and it's benefits. The lymphatic version is really more complicated and time consuming and I am not really one to go into that version.
