First time at at gym!

Hello All,
Let me first introduce myself. I am a 21 year old female. I have joined fitnesspal because in the past I have lost some weight with keeping a diary and counting calories. I have a 3 month old baby and I am o happy with him. Unfortunately I have gained 3 stone, with him that I desperately want to loose. I feel very despressed since my weight gain and also my sex life has suffered partly because of this.
So I have lost 9 lb already which brings me to 11 stone 55 lb ( sorry for the strange conversion, but where I'm from we use KG). I have come to the conclusion that without exercise I will not achieve what I wish ( a slim sporty body, like a 21 year old should have )) It's not just about losing wieght but also about feeling good, so I have joined a gym, but... it's my first time and I'm very nervous. I have absolutely NO idea what to do and how and for how long???????????? I would be very happy to receive some advice from you guys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If your goal is just weight loss, do cardio: treadmills, elliptical, etc.
If your goal includes building muscle mass, include strength training: machines, dumbbells, etc.0
