I don't bother watching sugars. I watch my total carbs. I can't have more than 30g per meal and 15g per snack. It's hard but if i don't do it that way, my glucose goes over what it should be But yes it does aid in weight loss.0

Well, I already don't do some things, like drinking soda...the major bad that the doctor I was listening to mentioned. In soda they put a TON of salt into it ....
no, they don't. generally they have about 2 percent of your daily allowance. when did that become 'a TON?'
the max sodium found in sodas is generally in root beer, and that is 100 mg. colas range 25-50.
a cup of tomato juice? 650.skim milk? 127.0 -
You should check out the book "i quit sugar", great recipes in there!
Thanks!0 -

To each is own, to me that is a ton of salt...and the only soda I care for the taste of is root beer. 100mg is a lot! There's no reason for it. I don't drink tomato juice, just like I don't buy jarred tomato sauces for that reason, way too much sodium. I also don't drink milk. So to me that is a LOT of sodium for a drink. And salt does make you thirsty, they add it so you'll want to drink more of it.0 -
My nutritionist recommended no sugar for 2 weeks for me. I went 6 days without added sugar (that doesn't include sugar in whole wheat/grains or fruit, but extra sugar as in processed foods, sweets, granola bars, cereal, etc.).
I couldn't believe how less hungry I was during the day without the sugar, which obviously just made me crave more when I did have it! I am a chocoholic.
I lost 2 lbs in that 6 days, the biggest loss I've had in months!
Today, I celebrated with 2 small dark choclate truffles and I can't tell you how crappy I feel... my stomach hurts and I'm sorry I even tried it. back on track now. Natural sugars and some sugar is o.k. in limits, but I am for now just trying to cut out the extra "junk" my body is saying give me and my mind is saying, "NO NO NO!"
Congrats on making the cut!
BTW- I am drinking a Diet A&W right now (I allow 1 diet soda a day) and there is 180mg of sodium in it according to the label. Sodium for me is the least of my worries right now.0 -
When shopping, the first thing I look at is Sugar, followed by Carbs, lastly Cholesterol.
Never had a "sweet tooth" so not such a big deal, more of a salt/spicy person0 -

whatever works for you, by all means. go for it. but in no world is even 100 mg of salt a lot.
and they don't add it to make you drink more. they'd need a whole lot more than that. salt is a preservative. it helps keep a longer shelf life. it also kicks up the taste of sweeteners, just as it would in cooking.
(and there is, in fact, sodium in bottled water, too. sodium in tap water, for that matter.)0 -
Out of curiosity, I added the sugar column to my diary today and almost wished that I hadn't. Couldn't believe how much sugar is in even the healthiest of foods. I've been juicing most of my fruit and vegetables (together) after watching that reboot documentary, thinking it was really good for you but with such a low sugar count per day - it is going to be really difficult to stay under that.0

Robert Lustig's Fat Chance is such a wonderful book. No wonder that it, along with Joel Fuhrman's The End of Diabetes and unlike the rest, got sold out (and eventually restocked) at the post-holiday diet table near bookstore entrances.
Sugar hits the belly fat, from where all evil arises. Diabetes. Alzheimers's. Those who store fat in their bellies are at higher risk of heart disease, stroke and certain cancers as well. There's no end to it.
Except for when enjoying nuts, seeds and avocados, the good fat (and fruit and vegetables and none of the unhealthy stuff). Not to forget dark chocolate. That's pure heaven. My kind of sweet.
