Valentine's Day

What are you and your lovely doing for Valentine's Day next week? Dinner, dessert, whatever?

My fiance and I are going about our work days as usual: healthy breakfast, healthy lunch, maybe some light exercises throughout the day, and then dinner and a shared dessert at one of our favorite breweries.

We are actually going to take the kids with us Sunday to shop for new shoes and get some dinner at the Olive Garden, then we are going home to watch a few rented movies. The Hubby and I may go next weekend to the casino for a bit of grown up fun!

Probably nothing. We never do for Valentines day, its just not something we like to celebrate. We do make it fun for the kids though, lots of pink heart shaped food and a little present when they get up.

That is so cute! I leave my fiance little cards and hearts all over the place, and I even try to sneak some in his lunch. My mom used to do that for me, too: cut my sandwich with a heart shaped cookie cutter, wrap things in red Saran Wrap, that sort of thing. I don't really believe in the "holiday," but I like all the little details that come along with it. :-)

Me and my girlfriend head to Pizza hut every valentines day and share a deep pan.

This year though, I'm getting one to myself because I deserve it and we are sharing a desert. Boom!!!
  • Usually, we go out all the time (bad habit) but we've been trying to cut back. So for Valentine's Day I'm really looking forward to going on a date with my hubby to a nice restaurant then we are seeing Billy Elliot at the theatre :)

We will be spending Valentine's Day and the long weekend at our cabin in the mountains. No TV, no phones. Steak dinner followed by Champagne and strawberries dipped in Nutella. Plenty of time by the fire and depending on the weather, maybe some hiking or show shoeing.

This is the holiday that shall not be mentioned at my house.

We celebrated the year we got married, and it went fine.

The next year, I threw up in the middle of the "fun" (great gastro bug going around that week); the year after that we spent the eveing in the emergency room because my husband cut his hand open during a fall, the following year was influenza, the year after that pnuemonia...etc...

So we just ignore it and kind of hope that it will just go away peacefully. We celebrate other times during the year...We just don't call it "that" to stay on the safe side.

It's our anniversary. We're going to have a late dinner at a local place where my husband knows the chef because he just did a photo essay there (and is scheduling another one). Then we're taking Friday off together to go talk to another chef about a photo essay and just wander around being useless. He might buy my flowers that I will enjoy for a day or so before he starts stealing them one at a time so he can light them on fire and take pictures. It's one of the perils of being married to a photographer.

My BF and I are going to a concert (old school alternative band) and will indulge in a few adult beverages. We haven't been dating long so no big fan fair for V-day :)

I have rib eye steaks dry aging in the fridge. I will make salad, shrimp and we will have chocolate covered strawberries for dessert.

My husband and I usually go out to dinner and or a movie. I always buy something for the kids and make or buy heart shaped cookies and or a cake. Our kids are much older now so they'll get a bottle of their favorite cologne instead of the cute stuffed toys. Other than that my husband and I don't exchange gifts.

Having dinner at the most adorable French restaurant. It always books up quickly for Valentine's Day, so this year I was proactive and made the reservations on January 2nd. :)

Dinner tonight. . .ahead of the rush. Nothing special on that day. However, since it's also our wedding anniversary, I might make him a pecan pie. :-) Neither one of us made it to 9 years in our first marriages. . .so this is a landmark anniversary and thusly deserves a decadent dessert!

We debated going out to my favorite Indian restaurant (Devi - highly recommend it for anyone in NYC!), but decided to stay home and cook ourselves a special meal instead : ) So it's homemade beet ravioli (that red!) stuffed with goat cheese and chives, salad, some wine, and some sort of as-of-yet-undecided chocolate explosion for dessert :D Knowing us, some Firefly watching will probably sneak its way in there too!
  • Same as usual only going out for dinner to our favorite place we go every year for Valentine's Day and our anniversary.
  • Corny alert!!! You have been warned! My honey and I make every day Valentine's Day! That way there is no pressure when the "holiday" comes around on February 14th. <3

Regular day. Probably a late dinner once the kiddos are in bed.

I'm thinking lamb and roasted red potatoes, and a spinach salad with raspberries, strawberries, red peppers, and some goat cheese.

    For dessert....chocolate fondue!

I love everyone's plans! I even love the "we don't celebrate this day" plans! I hope you all have a kickass day, whatever you're doing.

We decided long ago never to go to dinner on Valentine's Day, because so many restaurants limit their menus and rush you through the meal with substandard service.

My birthday is Valentine's Day, and one year my parents visited to take me and my husband out for dinner, but we waited until Feb. 15. We told the waiter it had been my birthday the day before but we decided to wait, and he uttered a very heartfelt "THANK YOU!!!!!"

My husband's bd is Feb. 11, so we pick a day the weekend before or weekend after, and celebrate two birthdays and Valentine's Day at the same time.

I enjoy reading all your plans! My boyfriend and I are going to a small thaï restaurant and a movie after. Not really special, since we go to the movie theater very often haha. I plan on baking either cookies or brownies with valentine's day M&M as a little attention so he'll be able to bring some to work!
