Need Help!
My Husband and I are thinking about getting a great dane puppy. I know that great really big but I would like to here from anyone that has one or knows people who have one and if they are a good choice to live in doors in town. We would like to have kids in a couple years also. Just need to hear some stories to help decide.
Thanks

I love Great Danes! I've never raised one, though, so I cannot speak to how they are indoors and stuff. My general impression is that, even though they are HUGE dogs, they are lower energy than a lot of other dogs like Huskies or Labs. I could be wrong.
I've heard Greyhounds are great large indoor dogs. They are often called "World's Fastest Couch Potato" since they actually don't need all that much exercise.

One of my favorite breeds. I used to have one, but he passed away years ago. He had gastric torsion(bloat), and never recovered from the surgery. They are high maintenance as far as health goes. They are prone to hip dysplasia and bloat, so you have to be careful with that. They are AWESOME with kids, so long as they are used to them and learn not to get rambunctious. I promise I'm not pulling all this from my butt. I was a vet tech for several years.
If you DO decide to get one, make sure you go to a reputable breeder. You can often find a breeder who will let you adopt an older one who they've rescued.0 -
My friend and her mom raise Great Danes and absolutely love them. They live in town and the dogs don't seem to mind. They do take them on daily walks and have a decent size yard to play in. As for dogs and kids...if your not planning to have any for a few years I would say go for it. It would give you plenty of time to fully train the pup before a lil one comes along. I have 4 boys and my friends Danes are great around them but my kids are extremely intimidated by the size of the dog though they weren't raised around dogs that size. This is also only brief visits. Sorry not too much help but I'm not that familiar with them. We are Husky Lovers here.0
