Picky eaters/cheap food.

My whole family are the pickiest eaters I have ever seen. It's been a battle for years. My 2 youngest kids have sensory eating issues. Like it's not a matter of them not wanting to eat healthy. It's if my youngest doesnt like something she has this gag reflex and will throw it up. My husband will barely eat fruit or vegetables. Total meat & Potatoes guy. So my problem is feeding myself and maybe my one daughter healthier. I need ideas CHEAP ideas of what I can eat myself. All these recipies I find either have too many ingredients or too complicated for 1 person or are too expensive to make separate from everyone else. So I have been eating stuff like lean cusines type things. Which can't be that great for me.Any ideas???
Thanks

I have the same problem as you my hubby and oldest daughter are super picky...my middle child and my youngest will pretty much eat whatever i give them...but all my kids love raw fruits and veg and that's the best thing to eat! I buy lots of those things and then my hubby won't eat chicken but the rest of us will and he rarely ever eats meals with us anyway so I make a lot of chicken for us because it's pretty inexpensive...the kids all love meat and it's healthy for you! Rice is also pretty inexpensive and you can do a lot of things with it and it is also very healthy...beans are nice to have as well...I agree with you on the Lean Cuisines they probably are not that healthy for you...try putting fresh or frozen items together that will please everyone...maybe your hubby will like sweet potatoes, they are a healthy alternative to the regular starchy potatoes...I bake mine and then put butter, salt, honey, and cinnamon on it and it's like heaven! :)

I am very fortunate not to have this problem. My husband does all the cooking and is the one who really keeps us on track with our healthy eating. I was never picky but living in Canada my international cuisine extended as far as Chinese take out. Moving to England (where I met my husband) introduced me to a whole world of flavours I never knew- and totally love! We are lucky as our (almost) 2 yr old eats whatever we do: Mexican, Indian curries, Moroccan, Chinese, beans, lentils, raw/cooked veggies, fuits, pretty much anything (except mashed potatoes that make him gag lol).

I suggest hiding their veggies in things like spaghetti sauce or lasagne- pack them with tomatoes, peppers, shredded carrots, celery. Try using ground turkey or chicken. Roast carrots and onions in with your husbands potatoes or add cauliflower in his mash (he'll never know!). Make pita pizzas (again load up the sauce with veggies and puree it so they will never know). I used to work as a nanny and the kids always loved to make their own wraps: think Subway with all the different options. Smoothies! Get creative!
