Car shopping... my worst nightmare.

It's time... my 12 year commitment to Jinkles, the Mazda Tribute, must come to an end.

But, what do I get now? I want another SUV... that is non-negotiable.

I have somewhat whittled it down to:

(1) GMC Terrain (great deals, great ratings on 2013 model, and I dig it)

(2) Toyota RAV4 (I puffy puffy heart toyota for keeping me alive... but they're a bit more pricey for the features?)

(3) Kia Sorento (not great ratings, but my bro has one and he's trying to talk me into it as there's great deals on it currently. Occasional use of 3rd row is a plus)

(4) Subaru Forester (I really don't like the way it looks, but let's face it, great ratings...)

I am eliminating the Ford Escape & Mazda Tribute & their other similar brothers as I've been driving that the last 12 years and need a break.

Any input for me??

I've had GMC. Loved it (it was a pickup, but it was a great truck for 12 years.)

I now have a Forester. Love it, and it's 14 years old, no real problems to speak of.

I don't mind the shopping, it's the paying for it that chaps my hide.

I'd go with the Subi any day, all day, over the others. The RAV4 is good, but over-priced. Kia isn't bad at all. GMC... no thanks.

    Dodge Journey.

Consumer Reports rated it pretty poorly :(

Lows... Handling, unresponsive transmission, fuel economy, rear visibility, tiny third-row seat, reliability. And awful reliability.

Get heated seats and buy at the end of the month for a better deal.

Since gas is $0.48 per gallon and my company is paying me to buy my car... I will be buying a GMC terrain. Probably 2010 model. So that has my vote!

Why would I buy a car that immediately depreciates around 5-6k? That's just silly and a waste of money.

If I'm spending $40k+ on a vehicle, I don't mind spending extra 5-6k so that I can be the first owner of a vehicle. Its not silly since owner history is important to many. Also, some people can afford spending extra for buying the latest. Doesn't mean its silly.

I vote Subaru. My wife drives an Outback, I used to have a Forrester. Great cars, especially when you know you're going to have poopy weather.

Why would I be purchasing a 40k car? That's ridiculous. It's a car, not the meaning of life. It's not something that I value. And I know the OP personally, thanks. So I'll talk to her however I want to. AND SHE LIKES IT.

You would really dislike the fact that I spent $400 on 2 shots of scotch then. A scotch that I didn't even liked...

Exactly! Either go big, spend an extra few and know that you were the first owner (hence knowing from the very beginning everything that has happened to the car in the back seat and under the hood) or go buy a nice reliable car that is 10 years old for a few grand.
