Too much exercise?

I have been netting under 1200 because due to my workouts and I'm just not hungry to make up the calories. I don't like the idea of eating fatty foods to make up the difference. I don't want to get used to them, then have to stop! lol Maybe a protein shake, but that won't make up for, say, a 500 calorie deficit. Hell, maybe several protein shakes is the answer. This is the first week I've had such large deficits (I don't forsee an end in sight) and I'm worried what it's doing to the inside of my body. Yesterday my net was -300!

Help!

If you aren't going to eat more calories to support your workouts then you will need to exercise less.

Don't be afraid of healthy fats...your body needs them. Likely at your deficit, you're not getting enough healthy fats. You can easily incorporate healthy fats into your diet and not have to give them up later. Fat doesn't make you fat. Eat some nuts, cook with some olive oil, eat an avocado or half of one, use 1% or 2% dairy products, etc. Dietary fat is not the enemy.

Baring that, if you can't properly fuel your exercise then don't exercise or lower your exercise intensity and duration. You don't need it to lose weight...the calorie goal MFP gave you has all the deficit you need to lose weight. Exercise for fitness, cardiovascular health, endurance, and strength but make sure you're fueling that activity.

I've lost 60 lbs eating Natural peanut butter almost everyday. Fat's not going to hurt you. They really should change the name of fat to something like "phat" so people wouldn't be so afraid of it. My wife is the same way, I think she'd be less scared of meeting a serial murderer in a dark alley than to eat some fat.

You said it yourself ..... you don't want to "get used to"

Think lifestyle changes here. How much do you see yourself exercising .... for the rest of your life?

I exercise "moderately" ..... I think I can do that in the future to maintain a weight loss.

As far a "fatty" foods. There are healthy, good for you fats .... nuts, nut butters, avacado, olive oil. These are calorie dense, so a little goes a long way.
  • Here's a quick tip: After every workout, cardio or resistance training, drink a single serving of chocolate low fat milk. I mean within the first 15 minutes after your workout. Watch the results!

You've bought into the mistaken belief that eating fat somehow makes you fat. In fact, eating fat keeps you full and satisfied much longer than eating carbs.

It's funny, when I was thinking of fatty foods, I was thinking of burgers and fries. The healthy fats didn't even cross my mind.

I love exercise and I see myself working out at a high intensity for the rest of my life because I love the way it makes me feel. You know, the good old runers high...

Seconded with the chocolate milk and peanut butter sandwich ideas, also things like nuts (almonds) and seeds can provide 'good' fats. I do know what you mean, you don't want to sabotage your efforts by eating rubbish, but there are lots of healthy things that you can add in too  .

Not losing weight is what I'm afraid of this week - my third. It definitely wasn't a planned action.
