Unfortunately trying to build muscle while trying to lose weight is VERY VERY difficult to achieve. One requires a calorie surplus, while the other a calorie deficit.
You're probably more concerned about weight loss, so stick to the calorie deficit. Loss of body fat will bring out more muscle definition (not the same thing as building muscle).

From reading other sources, it is usually recommended to cut body fat to a point where you are comfortable with the level of definition THEN, if you want to build muscle, bulk to the point where you are gaining muscle ... then cut again and re-assess.
